The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to manufacture precision components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The role requires attention to detail, technical competency, and adherence to safety and production requirements to ensure efficient and accurate machining operations.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up and operate CNC milling, turning, drilling, or machining center equipment.
- Load and verify CNC programs according to production requirements.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices.
- Perform machine adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
Production & Quality Control
- Manufacture parts according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications.
- Conduct first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM equipment where applicable.
- Ensure all machined components meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
- Identify and report non-conforming products and production issues promptly.
Machine Maintenance
- Perform routine machine maintenance and daily housekeeping activities.
- Monitor machine performance and report any abnormalities or breakdowns.
- Maintain tooling inventory and ensure proper handling of cutting tools and measuring equipment.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete production records, inspection reports, and machine operation logs accurately.
- Record production output, downtime, scrap, and rework data as required.
- Assist in implementing process improvements to enhance productivity and quality.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S standards.
- Comply with ISO, quality management, and company operational requirements.
Requirements
- Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience operating CNC machines (fresh graduates with relevant training may be considered).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T symbols.
- Knowledge of CNC programming (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Siemens, or equivalent controls) is an advantage.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work shifts, overtime, or weekends when required.
