The Role
As a Cloud & Server Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, support, and optimization of both Azure cloud and on-prem server environments. You will take ownership of incidents, execute infrastructure changes, and contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of core infrastructure services including cloud networking, storage, VMware virtualization, and backup solutions. You will also drive improvements in system performance, security, and cost optimization across both cloud and on-prem platforms.
You are expected to be technically strong, detail-oriented, and capable of managing hybrid infrastructure with minimal supervision. You take initiative in resolving issues and enjoy working on long-term improvements. You are confident in troubleshooting, scripting, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Accountabilities
Digital Workplace
These typically relate to on-prem infrastructure, user environments, and hybrid support:
Manage and support on-prem server infrastructure (VMs, OS, backups (Commvault, Veeam, Avamar), storage, networking).
Troubleshoot complex incidents and root cause issues (e.g., VM performance, connectivity, failed backups).
Fulfil advanced service requests (e.g., provisioning, OS installations, SSL renewals, policy configuration).
Execute and document changes following ITIL and internal processes.
Perform patch management and ensure security compliance across environments.
Maintain server security posture (e.g., Defender, firewalls, identity/access).
Coordinate maintenance windows and customer communication for planned works.
Contribute to monthly/quarterly health reports and environment reviews.
Public Cloud
These focus on Azure-specific responsibilities and governance:
Manage and support Azure server infrastructure (VMs, OS, backups, storage, networking).
Monitor cost and implement Azure governance practices (e.g., tagging, reserved instances).
Maintain cloud security posture (e.g., Defender, firewalls, identity/access).
Automate operational tasks using scripting tools (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Logic Apps).
Perform patch management and ensure security compliance across environments.
Contribute to monthly/quarterly health reports and environment reviews.
Your experience
3–5 years in infrastructure or cloud administration roles.
Strong experience in Windows Server, Active Directory, and Azure IaaS components.
Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving system and cloud performance issues.
Experience with patching, backup (Commvault, Veeam, Avamar), DR (Azure Backup & ASR), and automation.
Familiarity with monitoring platforms (LogicMonitor, Azure Monitor, etc.).
Knowledge of ITIL processes and change management.
Relevant certifications (e.g., AZ-900, AZ-104, AZ-500, AZ-700, Commvault Certified Professional, VMware Certified Technical Associate (VCTA), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Endpoint Administrator (MD-102), ITIL Foundation, Microsoft 365 Certified Fundamentals (MS-900) preferred.
