We are currently seeking an experienced and professional Chief Engineer to manage and oversee all aspects of property maintenance and improvements in the Australia Hotel property.

As part of the senior management team, you will report directly to the Area General Manager and be responsible for a team of professional trade and support staff. This is a hands-on role involving daily operations with your team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee refurbishment projects with the Area General Manager.
  • Lead your team in planning and executing preventative maintenance and repairs, ensuring high standards.
  • Prepare and manage capex proposals and projects.
  • Coordinate with other departments to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Train staff and share expertise to enhance team skills.
  • Manage external contractors, including obtaining quotes, raising purchase orders, and ensuring timely, standards-compliant work.
  • Design and implement energy management and conservation solutions.
  • Prepare monthly maintenance reports.
  • Participate in project work as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all Work Health & Safety policies.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Manager or 5 years as a Building/Facilities Manager.
  • Diploma or degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is highly desirable.
  • Experience in a large hotel engineering department preferred.
  • Proven experience managing large capex projects.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with Property Management Systems, especially Opera, is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Experience with budgeting and performance management.
  • Supervisory experience.
