Ansell is looking for Chemist to be based in Kulim Kedah, Malaysia. This position will assist to carry out primarily research and development projects work related to new products from the stage of preliminary lab study till validation trials and transfer to manufacturing.

What your role will be in details?
Reporting to the Manager, R&D, you will:
R&D Projects (50%)
- To carry out primarily R&D projects work related to NPD including identifying customer requirements and defining design inputs, planning the project work and preparation of milestone, conducts lab work and plant trials including testing, monitoring, reporting and till successful transferring to manufacturing.
- To plan and execute approved technical studies / experiments for new or modified products / processes.
- To establish and evaluate innovative ideas on new product and process development.
- To continuously acquire job-related knowledge for job performance improvement.
- To perform literature review and material search on new products and its quality specification requirements including test method required.
- To establish the related regulatory requirements for the new products in the research.
- To protect confidentiality of information related to work within the company such that no unauthorized person could gain access.
Evaluation of New Materials (9%)
- To identify suitable new materials for R&D work or alternative materials in use and evaluate the suitability and appropriateness for use through lab work and validation trials.
Statistical Data Analysis and R&D Reporting (13%)
- To collect and analyze quality data by means of suitable statistical tools for R&D work.
- To identify the need for statistical techniques for establishing, controlling and verifying quality data for R&D projects and implement such techniques accordingly.
- To record all information and write protocols, reports including summaries, highlights, papers, presentations for the project, based on the determined frequency.
Technical Support (6%)
- To provide technical support to marketing and manufacturing in resolving technical related problems, also in resolving problem identified from customer feedbacks, complaints trend and etc. including potential problem arising from newly developed products.
- To establish appropriate measure to improve the effectiveness of R&D activities as to reduce customer complaints and potential quality issues.
- To assist the R&D Manager in providing guidance and assistance to the manufacturing plants of Ansell whenever required.
- To supervise R&D Technician I / II, and coordinate factory trial runs, where required.
Maintenance of R&D Laboratory (10%)
- To maintain and upkeep of R&D lab for an effective and efficient operation including system compliance with 6S, GLP or ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 and supervision, training and manning of R&D Technicians I/II.
- To ensure appropriate documents, records, materials, tools and equipment are available and clearly identified, properly maintained and kept up to date.
- To practice the Quality Systems adopted by the Company and to conform to the regulatory requirements, whenever relevant to company business.
- To follow Safety, Health and Environmental procedures and to conform to the regulatory requirements, whenever relevant to company business.
- To implement and to comply with the Statutory, Regulatory, Secrecy and Organizational matters.
Design History File Administration and Maintainance (6%)
- To administer proper control and maintenance of documentation related to R&D activities such as Design History Files and R&D lab work records.
- To establish and implement an effective documentation control system for ease of retrieving R&D documents, data and records.
Other Functions (6%)
- To assist R&D Manager in all areas related to R&D functions & responsibilities.
- To carry out any duties assigned by R&D Manager.
- To assist in the company QMS and EMS requirements as and when required such as perform internal quality audits and etc.
What will you bring?
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Chemistry / Material / Polymer Science / Engineering / Science or equivalent.
- Knowledge in conducting research work / study, design of experiment, statistic techniques, technical material search and computer literate.
- Creative and analytical minded, able to work independently in the laboratory and also plant environment, have aptitude for development work.
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skill.
- Good understanding of good laboratory and safety, health and environment practices.
- Good knowledge of work area including designing and planning, undertaking experimental work, collecting data, analyzing and interpreting data, proposing future work.
- Competent in scaling up successful experimental / laboratory designs for manufacturing trials.
- Competent in handling of laboratory equipment necessary to carry out experimental / laboratory work.
- Good understanding of Design and Development Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and Test Methods.
- Computer literacy in using software such as Microsoft Words, Excel and PowerPoint. Lotus Notes, Minitab, Smartsheet and SAP would be required.
