A rapidly growing company in Malaysia is seeking a Chemist to perform analytical tests and support laboratory operations. The role involves sample preparation, maintenance of instruments, and mentoring staff, requiring a degree in chemistry and some experience. Sample preparation, performing analytical tests such as Oxygen/Nitrogen and Carbon/Sulphur tests using LECO instruments, impurities, and alloy composition by ICP.
Perform daily calibration and preventive maintenance of analytical instruments; responsible for lab consumables stock.
Prepare, update, and review composition, trace element, and gas trend charts and control limits.
Review and update laboratory-related procedures documentation.
Initiate continuous improvement activities, develop work plans with tasks, timeframes, and resources.
Prepare COA and other related documents.
Guide, develop, and mentor laboratory staff.
Anticipate and respond effectively to unforeseen technical problems, identify improvement areas, and resolve barriers to task completion.
Ensure health and safety guidelines are followed by all operational staff.
Estimate costs and set work standards.
Perform other ad-hoc duties as required.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry or equivalent with minimum 1 year of experience.
Strong knowledge of problem solving, planning, and project management.
Good analytical skills; sensitive to data and able to interpret insights from reports.
Ability to work variable hours/schedules to facilitate continuous improvement across all shifts.
