Job summary

The University of Nottingham Malaysia seeks a Laboratory Technician to support the Faculty Central Chemical Store operations, ensuring safe management of chemical supplies for teaching and research.

You will handle purchasing, receiving, storing, inventory, documentation, waste collection planning, and compliance with safety guidelines. A chemistry-related degree and strong English, planning and organizational skills are required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related sciences.
• Experience in chemical purchasing and stock management preferred.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate purchase of chemicals issued by individuals, Schools and Departments to ensure smooth procurement processes.
• Receive chemicals from suppliers and store them according to storing guidelines and special requirements before issuing to users.
• Organise collection, distribution and transportation of chemicals from and to the faculty central chemical store as requested by individuals or Schools and Departments.
• Maintain a stockroom of chemical supplies and ensure availability for teaching laboratory needs; determine stock levels and replenish as needed.
• Update the inventory database regularly to keep accurate data of chemicals in store.
• Maintain documents such as purchase requests, delivery orders and invoices, CSDS/MSDS and other approvals; file systematically for requested access by management or safety office.
• Plan and arrange scheduled chemical waste collection with Kualiti Alam.
• Ensure chemicals are managed according to safety guidelines set by the Health and Safety Office.
• Provide guidance on chemical properties through advanced analytical instrumentation and their practical applications in student labs.
