Laboratory Technicians at Concord College International School are enthusiastic and responsible individuals who assist in the smooth running of the school’s science laboratories. Under the guidance of the Senior Lab Technician and teaching staff, they help prepare resources, maintain equipment, and ensure that all practical sessions are delivered efficiently and safely. This role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in science and education, looking to develop their skills in a supportive academic environment.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

· Assist in preparing materials, equipment, and apparatus for practical classes, ensuring experiments are set up and dismantled efficiently and safely.

· Provide technical support and guidance during practical lessons, assisting teachers and students as needed.

·Assist in managing the inventory, ordering, and safe storage of chemicals, biological materials, and equipment.

·Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures and regulations within the laboratory environment, including regular risk assessments.

· Maintain laboratory cleanliness, equipment calibration, and upkeep of safety equipment.

· Collaborate with academic staff on the planning and development of experiments and demonstrations to support curriculum objectives.

· Assist in science enrichment activities, science fairs, and external assessments where required.

· Maintain accurate records for COSHH, risk assessments, and equipment logs.

· Provide support for school science projects and extended practical work, including aiding students in the proper use of lab equipment.

· Assist with administrative tasks including stock control, safety audits, and maintaining lab manuals.

· Maintain a positive and effective relationship with all staff.

· Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and other departments.

·Attend relevant staff training and meetings.

·Other duties as assigned by the Senior Laboratory Technician, Head of Department or Senior Management.

Pastoral

· Promote responsibility, respect, and high expectations for student behaviour within and outside laboratory settings.

· Monitor student well-being in the lab environment and provide pastoral care where appropriate.

·Encourage students to work safely, ethically, and collaboratively.

·Report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

· Supervise students during non-lesson times as required.

·Contribute to House events and extra-curricular activities.

General

·Promote the school’s ethos and uphold its core values in all professional conduct.

· Collaborate and communicate well with all school stakeholders.

· Meet deadlines and follow relevant school policies.

· Support and attend major school events and open days.

· Maintain punctuality and dress professionally.

Skills and experience required:

The successful applicant should have the following:

· Basic knowledge of laboratory practices and safety procedures.

· Preferable 2 years of experience as a laboratory technician or in a similar role within the Education industry. Fresh graduatesare also encouraged to apply.

· An interest in science and education.

· Confidence in using basic IT systems and willingness to learn new technologies.

· Good organisational and time management skills.

· Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision as part of a team.

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in laboratory management as the sole or major focus would be advantageous.
