Role Summary
The Financial Markets Operations (FMO) Middle Office Controls team is responsible for maintaining a robust control framework and governance across Financial Markets (FM) trading activities. This role supports Trade Validation, Front Office (FO) Supervision, and Non-Validation Controls to ensure accurate trade booking, effective risk management, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across global Financial Markets products.
The successful candidate will work closely with Front Office, Business COO, Operations, Risk, Finance, Compliance, and Technology teams to strengthen the control environment, support business growth, and drive operational transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Trade Validation Controls
- Perform trade validation by reviewing executed deals against external sources across OTC products and global regions.
- Ensure trades are accurately captured in internal systems in accordance with approved booking models.
- Execute daily control activities and reporting to support accurate risk capture and regulatory compliance.
Front Office Supervision Controls
- Monitor trading risk positions, trade capture timelines, and trading activities.
- Perform Front Office supervision controls to identify and elevate exceptions relating to trading risk, regulatory compliance, and rogue trading activities.
- Support governance and oversight of Financial Markets trading controls.
Non-Validation Controls
- Perform FOBO, FOFO, and interface system exception monitoring.
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks to ensure data integrity and completeness.
- Produce management information (MI), control reporting, and data insights to support business stakeholders.
Business & Operational Support
- Support new business initiatives, product launches, and strategic Financial Markets transformation programmes.
- Manage operational queries, investigations, and issue remediation while ensuring timely escalation of risks.
- Partner with Front Office Trading, Sales, Structuring teams, and Business COO to enhance business enablement and operational efficiency.
- Represent Middle Office Operations in supporting post-trade processes and business initiatives.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong working relationships with Front Office, Operations, Finance, Risk, Technology, Compliance, and Audit teams.
- Act as a trusted advisor by facilitating effective communication between business and operational teams.
- Support cross-functional collaboration to resolve operational issues efficiently.
- Partner with Technology teams to deliver automation and transformation initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve booking models, controls, and operational processes.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Risk, Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Operations Risk Framework and internal control standards.
- Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements and Standard Chartered Bank's Code of Conduct.
- Identify, assess, elevate, and mitigate operational, regulatory, and conduct risks.
- Monitor daily productivity, KPIs, KCIs, capacity metrics, and control effectiveness.

Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience in Financial Markets Operations, Middle Office, Trade Control, or Investment Banking Operations.
- Strong knowledge of OTC financial products and trade lifecycle processes.
- Experience in Trade Validation, Front Office Supervision, and Non-Validation Controls.
- Understanding of reconciliation, exception management, and operational risk controls.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting Financial Markets Operations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across global teams.
- Experience supporting operational transformation, process improvement, or automation initiatives is an advantage.
