The Role
The Balance Sheet Lead Accountant will play a key role in driving balance sheet integrity and control across the APAC, Europe, and UK regions within the Claims Solutions International business unit. This role involves close collaboration with R2R Accountants and cross-functional teams to lead initiatives that enhance transparency, accuracy, compliance, and standardisation of balance sheet processes.
Key responsibilities include improving automation, efficiency, and reliability of balance sheet reconciliations and reviews. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of financial statements, and the ability to coach and mentor the R2R team on best practices.
This role also bridges finance operations, systems, and project management—delivering end-to-end improvements in reconciliation frameworks, data quality, and reporting processes.
Hybrid Working Arrangement: 12pm to 8:00pm, Monday to Friday
Role Responsibilities
1. Coordinate and manage across the various regional R2R teams under the Shared Services Malaysia portfolio, all aspects of balance sheet-related reconciliation reporting, tracking and cleanup progress, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives, including:
- Standardisation of reconciliation processes and tools across all teams
- Assist in reviewing reconciliations submitted by R2R and Cognizant teams for quality and policy compliance
- Review, report and escalate status of aged balances or control issues to R2R senior management including progress of clean-up of legacy balances
- Implementation of sub-ledger vs general ledger alignment processes across all R2R teams
- Design and deliver balance sheet improvement project plans, manage timelines, resources, and risks across the APAC/Europe/UK CSI portfolio
- Work with R2R, FP&A, P2P, IT, WCAP and compliance teams to identify root causes of control gaps or reconciliation challenges
- Drive automation and systems enhancements to support balance sheet governance
- Report and monitor KPIs around reconciliation quality, ageing of balances, and resolution rates, utilising trackers or dashboards
- Support internal and external audit queries and ensure audit readiness for all balance sheet areas
- Facilitate training and knowledge transfer across finance teams on balance sheet best practices
- Report on project progress, risks, mitigation strategies and outcomes to senior finance leadership
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies.

Post-holder Specification
- Able to work the required hours of 12pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 5 years+ post qualification experience of working in complex international businesses
- Proven experience in financial management, with a focus on balance sheet analysis.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting principles, financial statements, and regulatory requirements, with exposure to SOX compliance an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and proactive in resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical and detailed problem-solving skills; able to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to prioritise and work under a tight schedule, flexible approach, able to move between tasks continuously, and demonstrable experience of working in a fast-paced environment with proven success.
