Bahasa Melayu Teacher Leader

Reports To: Head of Secondary/Head of Modern Foreign Languages

Purpose of Role

To lead the delivery of engaging and effective Bahasa Melayu lessons to secondary students, promoting language development, cultural understanding, and academic achievement. The Teacher Leader will inspire a passion for language learning and contribute to the holistic development of students in alignment with the school’s values and curriculum standards.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality Bahasa Melayu lessons that are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with the school’s curriculum.

  • Support both native and non-native speakers in achieving language proficiency through differentiated instruction.

  • Foster a positive, respectful, and safe classroom environment.

Curriculum & Planning

  • Lead curriculum planning based on school guidelines and Cambridge IGCSE standards (if applicable).

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the language department on schemes of work and lesson planning.

  • Integrate cultural elements and real-world contexts to enrich learning experiences.

Student Support & Wellbeing

  • Monitor student progress and provide targeted academic support.

  • Encourage student participation and cultivate a love for Malay language and culture.

  • Serve as a form tutor (if assigned), supporting students’ pastoral and academic wellbeing.

Assessment & Reporting

  • Design and administer assessments to evaluate student progress effectively.

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and parents.

  • Prepare student reports and participate in parent-teacher meetings as scheduled.

Professional Contribution

  • Actively participate in departmental and school-wide meetings, events, and CPD opportunities.

  • Contribute to co-curricular programs, school events, and community engagement initiatives.

  • Uphold school policies and promote the school’s mission and values.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety

  • Ensure adherence to the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Maintain student safety during lessons and school activities.

  • Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns promptly and appropriately.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education.

  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).

  • Experience teaching Bahasa Malaysia in a school setting.

  • Strong knowledge of Bahasa Malaysia language pedagogy and curriculum requirements.

Desirable Skills & Competencies:
