Job summary

Counterpunch A Virtuos Studio in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Backend Machine Learning Programmer to build scalable services and data infrastructure powering AI products. You will design cloud-native systems on AWS, create large-scale data pipelines and deploy ML models in production, with a focus on AI-assisted coding tools and agentic approaches.

The role requires strong backend experience in Python, AWS, and data processing, plus clear English communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Strong backend engineering skills in Python and server-side development.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and data pipelines.
• Experience serving ML models and working with databases including vector/search stores.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Around 4+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex CLI, GitHub Copilot or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services and APIs for ML features.
• Build and operate large-scale data pipelines for big datasets.
• Deploy, serve and scale ML models in production, including embeddings and vector search.
• Design and operate AWS cloud infrastructure for reliability, security and cost-efficiency.
• Own data storage and retrieval across relational and vector/search stores.
• Build CI/CD, observability and automated testing for backend systems.
• Collaborate with ML and frontend engineers to deliver end-to-end features.
