Job Title: Assistant Procurement Manager
Division: Weir Minerals
Location: Batu Caves

Onsite

Purpose of Role:
  • Provide leadership and management for the cost-effective and timely procurement of raw materials, chemicals, metals, parts, and other related requirements, focusing on metals management, including fabricated or casted inserts, moulds, and metal tooling.
  • Strengthen the commercial aspects of WMM business through contract management and negotiations for all materials and services.
  • Develop and implement systems to meet customer requirements, improve delivery times, enhance product quality, and reduce purchase costs.
  • Manage product and information flow, including order processing, monitoring, liaising with manufacturing and suppliers.
  • Control and improve SOPs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement and promote SHE policies, ensuring safety and environmental standards are met.
  • Ensure awareness of SHE responsibilities among employees.
  • Utilize company systems to control SHE risks.
  • Ensure timely delivery of purchases and follow-up on orders.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs for the Purchasing Department.
  • Oversee incoming materials inspection and supplier SLAs.
  • Improve procurement processes, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Develop management systems for raw materials to ensure availability.
  • Coordinate material movement and develop Kanban systems where appropriate.
  • Support new product launches and project demands.
  • Review SOPs and WI's for accuracy and compliance, working closely with QA.
  • Optimize cycle times through lean studies, eliminate waste, and identify improvements.
  • Manage raw materials inventories based on JIT and Kanban concepts.
  • Support Lean Supply Chain and Logistics best practices.
  • Implement problem solving methodologies to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Assist in achieving and maintaining OHSAS18000 compliance.
  • Participate in global purchasing forums and follow through on actions.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Supply Chain or Operations Management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior procurement role, preferably in rubber or metal manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
  • Experience in automotive, metals, electronics, power industrial, oil, and gas industries is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in SAP supporting procurement functions is essential.
  • Strong organizational, negotiation, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and manage change effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
