Job description

The Strategic Communications and Public Affairs Unit (SCPAU) is responsible for managing Khazanah’s reputation, stakeholder engagement, and media relations. It ensures alignment with the organisation's strategic priorities through effective communication strategies, media management, parliamentary interactions, and crisis communications. The unit fosters strong relationships with key stakeholders, enhances Khazanah’s public profile, and safeguards its interests through proactive engagement and messaging.

Job Responsibilities

1. Strategic Communications & Planning

  • Assist in executing Khazanah’s Strategic Communications & Public Affairs (“SCPAU”) initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic priorities and communication goals. This includes media engagement, parliamentary interaction, technical writing, and crisis management, ensuring consistency in messaging across various channels.
  • Provide support in crisis communication planning and response to safeguard Khazanah’s reputation.
  • Draft and refine technical and financial communication materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with Khazanah’s messaging.

2. Public Affairs & Media Engagement

  • Support the execution of media relations activities, including drafting press releases, preparing media responses, and coordinating media engagements.
  • Monitor media coverage and stakeholder sentiment, providing insights and recommendations to enhance Khazanah’s public positioning.
  • Support Khazanah’s stakeholder management, including stakeholder mapping and effective engagement aligned with Khazanah’s objectives.

3. Crisis Communication

  • Support crisis communication efforts by assisting in media monitoring, stakeholder management, and message coordination.
  • Help develop crisis communication materials, including holding statements, FAQs, and briefing documents.
  • Work closely with internal teams to assess risks and implement proactive communication strategies.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 to 8 years of experience in public affairs, media relations, or corporate communications, preferably within a reputable organisation, government entity, or media outlet. Experience in journalism is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting media relations and crisis communications, with an understanding of best practices in message development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Good understanding of the financial industry, with the ability to interpret investment and financial content and support the development of clear and consistent communications aligned with Khazanah’s strategic narrative.
  • Familiarity with parliamentary processes, government institutions, and Malaysia’s political landscape.
  • Strong analytical skills to track media coverage, assess public sentiment, and provide insight into policy or reputational issues.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships and coordinate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and engaging content for diverse audiences.
