Job description

JOB PURPOSE

The primary responsibility of the Equity Portfolio Manager is to meet the investment income target for the equity asset class across all funds within the Group Shared Services Unit (“GSSU”). To achieve this, the officer will be expected to conduct in-depth analysis of stocks listed on Bursa Malaysia, attend company briefings and analyst sessions, and stay informed on the latest local and foreign market and economic developments. With a comprehensive skill set, the portfolio manager will be responsible for making well-informed recommendations on buy and sell strategies to optimize portfolio performance.

The Equity Portfolio Manager will also be responsible for executing share transactions and engaging in active trading when market conditions align with favorable strategies. Additionally, the portfolio manager will participate in relevant meetings under the GSSU framework, attend corporate events such as financial results presentations, analyst briefings, and Annual General Meetings (“AGMs”) to stay informed and make timely, strategic decisions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identify and highlight key market-moving news to the VP/Head of Portfolio Management (“HPM”) and Group Chief Investment Officer (“GCIO”) to ensure timely and informed decision-making.
  2. Perform comprehensive analysis on stock picks, stock updates, IPOs, corporate circulars, and other investment instruments requiring action, and prepare detailed reports for submission to the HPM and GCIO.
  3. Develop and propose investment strategies, including new acquisitions, portfolio rebalancing, or potential stock loss mitigation strategies, for review and further discussion with the HPM and GCIO.
  4. Provide informed recommendations on stock picks, IPOs, and corporate circulars based on thorough analysis and market insights.
  5. Continuously monitor the financial performance and other fundamental developments of companies within the portfolio, providing regular updates to the HPM and GCIO as new data becomes available. Propose buy or sell strategies when deemed necessary based on the latest insights.
  6. Monitor and ensure that equity market investments remain within the prescribed asset allocation limits, safeguarding compliance with the portfolio’s investment guidelines.
  7. Monitor the Shariah compliance of equity investments for portfolio with shariah mandate, ensuring alignment with Investment Guidelines.
  8. Efficiently execute share transactions across multiple funds under the GSSU, ensuring optimal timing and execution.
  9. Assist the department in preparing accurate and comprehensive meeting papers for various management and Board meetings.
  10. Proactively attend company/site visits, analyst/fund manager briefings, AGMs, and other relevant events, and prepare detailed reports or summaries following each visit to capture key insights.
  11. Contributes to the preparation of the annual equity investment budget, ensuring accurate input for submission to HPM.
  12. Prepare ad hoc reports on equity investments and related matters and assist in compiling periodic reports for submission to other departments, as directed by the HPM or GCIO.
  13. Attend investment-related meetings for all companies under GSSU as required by the Head of Department (HOD) or Group Chief Investment Officer (GCIO).

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

Academic

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or related field (Master’s degrees is preferred).

Professional

  • Professional certifications such as CFA, ACCA, FRM, or equivalent would be an added advantage. Candidates who are actively pursuing these certifications are also encouraged to apply.
