Job description

Job Purpose

To assist the QA/QC Manager in ensuring that quality assurance and control procedures are effectively implemented across all phases of railway track construction and maintenance. The Assistant Manager QA/QC plays a key role in supervising inspection activities, coordinating testing, ensuring compliance with contract specifications, and maintaining systematic quality documentation.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Certification in Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001), Quality Auditing, or equivalent is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience in railway track construction and maintenance.
  • Prior experience in a QA/QC role within infrastructure or railway projects is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the QA/QC Manager in the development, implementation, and review of QA/QC plans and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Supervise daily QA/QC activities including material inspections, work execution checks, and documentation control.
  • Monitor construction work to ensure compliance with technical specifications, KTMB Track Manual, and applicable standards (e.g., AS standards).
  • Verify that materials and equipment meet specified quality standards and are supported by approved documentation (e.g., compliance certificates, test results).
  • Support quality inspections and coordinate with site teams and subcontractors to resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, rail welding reports (FBW/ATW), and NCRs.
  • Liaise with laboratories and third-party testing agencies to ensure timely testing and reporting.
  • Ensure proper control of technical submittals, shop drawings, and quality-related documentation.
  • Assist in the identification, reporting, and closure of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Prepare QA/QC reports and summaries for weekly and monthly project reporting.
  • Assist in internal and external audits conducted by consultants, clients, or certification bodies.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement by identifying gaps and proposing corrective actions.
  • Train and guide junior QA/QC personnel and field staff in quality practices and project specifications.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the company’s quality management system.

Requirements & Skills

  • Solid understanding of railway track construction methods and quality control requirements.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC processes, inspection techniques, and test procedures.
  • Good knowledge of relevant standards (KTMB, AS standards, ISO 9001).
  • Competence in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and test plans.
  • Ability to use QA/QC software tools and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a dynamic construction environment.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and commitment to quality and safety.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily site-based role with occasional office coordination.
  • May require travel between project sites.
  • Extended hours may be necessary during peak phases of construction.
