Job description
Assistant Professor - Faculty of Medicine

Assistant Professor is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and supporting the academic programmes within the respective faculty or centre. This includes designing, developing, and delivering course content in line with the approved curriculum, as well as evaluating teaching effectiveness through structured assessments. The role also plays a critical part in advancing the university’s research agenda by maintaining an active research portfolio within their area of expertise. This includes undertaking individual or collaborative research projects and supervising postgraduate research students.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Teaching and Learning
  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and clinical teaching to undergraduate and/or postgraduate medical students.
  • Develop, review, and update curriculum materials and teaching methods in line with MQA, MMC, and university standards.
  • Supervise student assessments, clinical postings, and project work.
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring to students.
2. Research and Scholarly Activities
  • Undertake independent and collaborative research in the relevant medical field.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
  • Seek external research funding and grants.
  • Supervise postgraduate research students (if applicable).
3. Clinical Services (if applicable)
  • Participate in clinical duties in affiliated teaching hospitals or clinics.
  • Maintain medical registration with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
  • Contribute to the enhancement of clinical teaching through active hospital engagement.
4. Administration and Academic Leadership
  • Serve on academic committees, boards, and working groups.
  • Assist in accreditation processes, quality assurance, and curriculum development.
  • Support outreach and engagement with professional and regulatory bodies.
5. Professional Development
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance teaching and research capabilities.
  • Engage in continuous medical education (CME) and keep up-to-date with developments in medical science.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Medical degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Master's or PhD in a relevant medical or biomedical field (or pursuing).
  • Registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) with valid APC (if involved in clinical work).
  • At least 2–3 years of teaching, clinical practice, or research experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred
  • Recognized teaching qualification or completion of a teaching certificate (e.g., Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education).
  • Experience in curriculum development and medical education technology.
  • Indexed journal publications and research grant experience.
