Job Description - Assistant Manager, Tax Specialist (MER0003T59)

Responsibilities
  • Objective of Job: Responsible for managing organization tax compliance covering both direct and indirect taxes, capital allowance and BEPS 2.0 Pillar Two.
  • Responsible in asset management related matters, i.e. asset tagging, capital allowance.
  • Assist in handling corporate tax filing and compliance.
  • Assist in handling custom duty related matter.
  • Collaboration with business stakeholders on the ad-hoc project handling.
Specific Roles by Area
  • Corporate Tax Filing
    • Prepare, analyze and submit accurate and timely corporate income tax returns.
    • Ensure compliance with monthly, quarterly, and annual tax obligations.
    • Prepare and submit Estimated Tax Payable (ETP - CP204 initial and CP204A revision).
    • Maintain proper documentation and working papers for audit and internal review.
    • From YA2025 onwards submit MITRS (Malaysian Income Tax Reporting System).
    • Prepare tax calculation for Hard Close and Year End Closing submission in Global Tax Center (GTC).
    • Support readiness for Global Minimum Tax (GMT) implementation under BEPS 2.0 Pillar Two, effective from 1 January 2025.
    • Assist in evaluating group structure and entity classification for GloBE rules.
    • Prepare data and documentation for Domestic Top-Up Tax (DTT) and Multinational Top-Up Tax (MTT).
    • Monitor developments in BEPS 2.0 and assess impact on tax incentives and effective tax rates.
  • Withholding Taxes (WHT)
    • Review payments to non-residents and determine applicable WHT rates.
    • Prepare and submit WHT forms (e.g., CP37, CP37A) and ensure timely remittance.
    • Reconcile WHT payments and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Incentive Management & Custom Duty Compliance
    • Provide support for tax incentives (e.g., Reinvestment Allowance, Investment Tax Allowance).
    • Assist in Custom Duty Compliance related matter.
  • Indirect Taxes
    • Service Tax: Monitor SST compliance across departments and advise on SST treatment.
    • Prepare and file Sales and Service Tax (SST) returns bi-monthly (if registered).
    • Submission of Imported Service Tax.
    • Monitor developments in indirect tax and assess impact on tax incentives and effective tax rates.
    • Support compliance with import duties, excise duties, and customs declarations (if any).
  • Payables Related
    • Support AP reporting tasks not handled by Finance Operation (FO) team, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and effective communication with FO and stakeholders (e.g., Maverick Buy Report, e-invoicing report, sample check report, Data Extraction for MIDA).
  • Asset Management
    • Assist in overall asset management and asset-related reporting and ad-hoc activities.
    • Ensure timeliness and completeness of asset tagging exercise.
    • Maintain and update the fixed asset register for tax purposes.
    • Calculate initial and annual capital allowances for qualifying assets.
    • Prepare supporting schedules for tax computations.
    • Ensure proper classification and documentation of assets.
  • External Audit Handling
    • Prepare Audit Notes for AP, Asset and Tax Related.
  • SSC Queries
    • Provide guidance and support to colleagues and FO teams on AP-related matters until the E2E process is stabilized.
  • Compliance & Process Improvement
    • Adhere to all company and Mercedes-Benz policies and other relevant compliance matters.
    • To continuously improve the existing policies and procedures.
    • Support ICFR control execution to ensure all controls are in place.
    • To prepare tax-related journal entries in accordance with local accounting standards (MFRS) and Mercedes-Benz accounting standards (IFRS).
  • Ad Hoc Projects
    • Support ad hoc projects assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Degree/Advanced Diploma in Accountancy.
  • Experience (Type of): At least 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Experience in SAP system.
