Overview
The Assistant Manager, Procurement is responsible for supporting and managing the procurement activities of raw materials, equipment, and services required for chemical manufacturing operations. This role ensures cost-effective sourcing, supplier performance management, and strict adherence to compliance and safety standards. The position requires strong expertise in contract management to safeguard company interests and optimize supplier agreements.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the end-to-end procurement process, including sourcing, vendor selection, negotiation, and purchase order management.
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships to ensure continuous supply, quality standards, and competitive pricing.
- Prepare, review, and administer procurement contracts, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
- Monitor contract performance and resolve disputes or non-compliance issues in collaboration with legal and operational teams.
- Support strategic procurement planning to align with production requirements, cost optimization, and risk management strategies.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, safety, and service, and recommend improvements or alternative sources.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal policies, HSE standards, and industry regulations.
- Work closely with Finance, Operations, and other stakeholders to forecast procurement needs, budget expenditures, and achieve cost savings.
- Conduct market intelligence and benchmarking for raw materials, equipment, and services within the chemical industry.
- Assist the Senior Manager, Procurement in developing policies, processes, and systems to strengthen procurement governance.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years of procurement experience, preferably in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
- Proven experience in contract management, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and administering supplier/service contracts.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of procurement regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement tools.
- Strong understanding of chemical industry supply markets, safety requirements, and logistics.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
