As the Assistant Manager, Legal, Governance & Compliance, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the company’s legal standing, strengthening its governance structure, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. This position is key to enabling sound decision-making and risk management across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal:
- Develop and implement the organisation's legal, governance, and compliance framework aligned with business goals.
- Draft, review, and advise on agreements such as service agreements, marketing agreements, tenancy agreements, licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, etc.
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal implications of business activities and provide timely, accurate legal opinions.
- Proactively identify and manage legal and regulatory risks by establishing internal policies and processes.
- Handle preliminary assessments on potential disputes and complaints.
- Manage litigation and dispute cases, including drafting defence statements and coordinating with external legal counsel when required.
Governance & Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and monitor governance and compliance policies to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Maintain the company’s contract registry and oversee compliance with the contracts management framework.
- Act as the Company’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), ensuring compliance with data protection laws and overseeing data processing activities.
- Conduct periodic internal control assessments to evaluate compliance effectiveness and identify potential risks.
- Assist in the implementation of corporate governance standards and support internal audits where needed.
- Provide administrative support for systems, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in ad-hoc projects and provide legal or compliance-related expertise as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Law or equivalent; a professional legal qualification is required.
- Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with in-house exposure and prior practice in a reputable law firm.
- Strong background in corporate/commercial law is essential.
- Experience or exposure in compliance, integrity, or anti-bribery and corruption (ABAC) is highly preferred.
- Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Proficient in legal research and well-versed in Malaysian laws and regulations, including but not limited to Companies Act 2016, Contracts Act 1950, Hire Purchase Act 1967.
- Experience in the automotive industry is an added advantage.
- Meticulous, analytical, and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
