Job description

Position Summary:

As a member of Legal for UNIQLO, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to the organization ensuring compliance with laws & regulations while minimizing legal risks. You are responsible for the day-to-day legal operations and supporting the business's growth in the retail industry. The role requires you to stay updated on changes in legislation relevant to the business and providing training or updates to internal stakeholders when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide Legal & Compliance Advice Across the Business.

  • Provision of legal & compliance services and handling broad base corporate and commercial matters (non-contentious and contentious).
  • Advise internal stakeholders in all areas of law & compliance to regulatory (including advertising, commercial, competition, corporate, IT, IP, data privacy, employment and property).
  • Advise, identify, and assess impact of regulatory compliance risks during new product/ services development, process, marketing/promotional campaigns and other related activities.
  • Carry out risk management actions in Identifying & Analyzing potential legal issues that will have implications to the business.
  • Partner with the Information Security department (ISO) on legal risks, financial and reputational risks.
  • Work with Stores and Store Support departments to increase & develop legal & compliance awareness.
  • Implementing the company's compliance programme to legal matters/ applicable laws, compliance reporting, investigation, and recommendation of remedial action to maintain legal standards including but not limited to data protection laws and new legislation.
  • Coordinating the company's compliance efforts including staff training, liaison with external consultants and the relevant authorities.
  • Advocate best practices and policies through facilitating training, guidance and even assistance in customer claims.

Responsible for Contractual Advice & Agreements

  • Advising, drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts including tenancy agreements, marketing, supply of goods & services agreements employment, nondisclosure agreements, etc.
  • Support the business on post-contract related matters arising from the collaboration, partnership, dealership, customer (individual/enterprise) and/ or procurement agreements including but not limited to extension of the contract duration, change of scope of works, dispute with the vendor, supplier, dealer demand against vendor/supplier on late delivery or non-performance.
  • Support new business initiatives from a legal perspective including but not limited to new entity company set up and licensing requirements.

Other Legal Tasks

  • Doing legal research in support of business e.g. product development or compliances considerations.
  • Creating legal templates and where necessary and updating documents with any relevant changes.
  • Supporting corporate secretarial work between the business/functions and company secretary.
  • Supporting in ad-hoc matters that are required by Legal Director or Management team.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Law.
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years working experience as a lawyer/legal counsel on commercial matters.
  • Experience in compliance, risk management, real estate, corporate and/or litigation matters.
  • Experience working with MNC or startup companies or in an entrepreneurial environment is advantageous.
