Assistant Manager, Data Excellence, Asia

The purpose of this role is to develop and embed data governance capabilities, ensuring data security and accessibility. Responsibilities include creating data management plans, supporting data quality management, and providing analysis and reporting on data quality and governance. The role involves assisting with data migration from on-premises resources to the cloud, building data models, and managing data discrepancies. It requires a blend of technical and non-technical skills, focusing on technical experience (e.g., senior developers, data engineers, data solution architects) and strategic direction. A suitable candidate understands current technological possibilities and limitations and aligns these with business goals centered on revenue growth and cost reduction.

The opportunity:
  • Implement the long-term data excellence strategy.
  • Manage data governance activities collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • Develop and reconcile data policies, processes, and standards.
  • Build data models and design data service architectures, replicating on-prem results into the cloud and improving them.
  • Manage cloud data platform costs and expansion.
  • Coordinate Data Governance Council and Committee activities.
  • Ensure all data assets are cataloged in Collibra with clear ownership.
  • Document and embed data governance processes organization-wide.
  • Communicate data issues effectively to technical and non-technical users.
  • Lead Collibra implementation and develop a comprehensive knowledge base.
  • Align efforts with the broader IT strategy.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members.
About You:
  • Experience in creating specifications for approval and technical use.
  • Proficiency in structured analytical techniques.
  • Background in data management within business or IT operations.
  • Strong critical thinking, opportunity identification, and risk assessment skills.
  • Hands-on experience with database tools like IBM DB2, AS400/P400, Databricks, Azure Cloud, and languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle, Sybase.
  • Previous experience in the insurance industry, preferably Lloyd's.
  • Experience in customer-facing/support roles.
  • Knowledge of data protection laws in Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
  • Experience training end users on data usage.
  • Ability to work with business representatives to document requirements.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and methods.
