Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking an AI Software Engineer to join a hands-on, mid-level role focused on applied AI, full-stack development, system modernization, and automated QA. You will collaborate with the CTO on two core platforms: a transaction-critical backend and an AI-powered document/data workspace, with emphasis on production-ready AI systems.

The role covers context engineering, tool calling, vector databases, and AI automation, plus frontend/backend development and cloud deployment.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of professional software development experience.
• Experience building production web applications with React.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools in software development.
• Interest or experience in LLMs, RAG, agents, memory, context engineering, vector databases, or AI automation.
• Experience with automated testing; Playwright experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI assistants that understand user intent and perform multi-step tasks.
• Design context engineering, prompts, conversation state, memory, and personalization.
• Implement agent skills, tool calling, workflow orchestration, and AI automation.
• Handle retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and semantic search.
• Enable natural-language querying of databases, spreadsheets, documents, and business information.
• Contribute to AI evaluation, regression testing, observability, latency, reliability, security, and cost optimization.
• Implement transactional features involving sales, payments, inventory, reconciliation, reporting, and enterprise integrations.
• Build frontend applications, backend services, REST APIs, databases, and cloud deployment.
• Refactor and modernize existing systems without introducing regressions.

Applied AI, Full-Stack Development & QA Automation

About the Role

We are looking for an AI Software Engineer with strong development fundamentals and a genuine passion for building practical, production-ready AI systems.

You will work directly with the CTO across two key platforms:

• A transaction-critical platform supporting sales, payments, inventory, customers, reporting, and enterprise integrations.
• An AI-powered application that enables users to work with documents, databases, business data, and external information through natural language.

This is a hands-on mid-level role covering applied AI, full-stack development, system modernisation, and automated quality assurance.

What You Will Work On

• AI assistants that understand user intent and complete multi-step tasks.
• Context engineering, prompt design, conversation state, long-term memory, and personalisation.
• Agent skills, tool calling, workflow orchestration, and AI automation.
• Retrieval-augmented generation, document ingestion, embeddings, semantic search, reranking, and vector databases.
• Natural-language querying of databases, spreadsheets, documents, and business information.
• AI evaluation, regression testing, observability, latency, reliability, security, and cost optimisation.
• Transactional features involving sales, payments, inventory, reconciliation, reporting, and enterprise integrations.

QA and Test Automation

• Build and maintain automated unit, integration, API, regression, and end-to-end tests.
• Automate critical user journeys across transactional and AI-powered workflows.
• Create repeatable evaluation suites for AI routing, retrieval, memory, tool usage, response quality, and failure handling.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Investigate failed tests and production issues to identify and fix their root causes.

All AI-generated work must be reviewed, tested, and validated before production use.

Requirements

• Three or more years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with React and production web applications.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Practical experience using AI coding tools in software development.
• Interest or experience in LLMs, RAG, agents, memory, context engineering, vector databases, or AI automation.
• Experience with automated testing; Playwright experience is advantageous.
• Ability to understand, debug, and improve large or unfamiliar codebases.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and root-cause problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable learning quickly and working across the full stack.
