Area Sales Manager – Modern Trade (Hyper & Supermarket)

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and manage the merchandising team to achieve assigned sales targets across all Modern Trade accounts.

Develop and execute action plans to drive volume, visibility, and sales growth in line with company objectives.

2. Customer Relationship Management

Build and maintain strong working relationships with key store personnel to ensure high service levels and issue resolution.

Schedule and conduct regular store visits to strengthen customer engagement and support execution excellence.

Supervise, train, and motivate a team of Sales Merchandisers to execute planograms, maintain shelf hygiene, and implement promotional displays.

Monitor team productivity and provide continuous coaching to elevate field performance.

4. Shelf & Display Optimization

Ensure optimal shelf presence, compliance with planograms, and impactful in-store visibility for all key SKUs.

Implement eye-catching secondary displays to drive consumer interest and conversion.

5. Inventory & Stock Management

Ensure strict adherence to FIFO practices to maintain product freshness and minimize expiries.

Monitor in-store stock levels and coordinate with sales teams to prevent out-of-stocks or overstocking.

Partner with Sales and Marketing teams to manage trade promotions, in-store activities, and stock replenishment aligned with sales plans.

Facilitate effective communication and coordination between internal stakeholders and field operations.

7. Billing & Collections

Ensure timely payment collection in accordance with agreed credit terms.

Resolve billing discrepancies or payment issues with store-level counterparts.

8. Promotional & Trade Marketing Activities

Plan and support the execution of in-store promotions, roadshows, and sampling events to enhance brand engagement and offtake.

Oversee the implementation and effective usage of SFA tools to enhance tracking, reporting, and productivity.

Promote adoption among field teams and continuously improve digital workflows.

10. Sales & Market Insights

Analyze sales trends, competitor activity, and store-level data to optimize merchandising strategy and sales tactics.

Share actionable insights with management to support business planning.

11. Store Audits & Compliance

Conduct regular field visits to evaluate execution standards, monitor category performance, and provide feedback or corrective guidance as needed.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in sales & merchandising, preferably in the FMCG industry and managing key hyper and supermarkets clients.

Strong creative and design skills, with experience in merchandising strategy development.

Proficiency in business intelligence report, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), and Sales Force Automation.

Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including Sales, Marketing, and Operations.
