A local architectural studio in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Senior Architectural Designer to lead building design projects. The role involves crafting detailed construction drawings, guiding junior designers, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and experience in architectural design, particularly with BIM and CAD tools.

Primary Role
Working together the Project Manager as the technical and production lead of building design.
You are detail oriented, have a sharp eye to identify design problems, and quick to research possible solutions for design issues rooted in the project context.
Management Responsibilities:
Understand project design needs, and type of drawings required to communicate appropriate design responses to push designs forward.
Able to organize tasks, questions, for back and forth during client meetings
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior architectural designers and other team members
Stay updated on industry trends, building codes, and regulations to ensure compliance in design and construction processes.
Manage product vendors and representatives, perform material research, as it pertains to the needs of projects.
Technical Responsibilities:
Develop architectural designs and plans based on project specifications
Develop and manage BIM model (ArchiCAD) as required to achieve project objectives
Produce detailed drawings and documentation for construction purposes and delegate tasks to necessary staff members for successful delivery of drawings.
Produce drawings used for coordinating with engineers, contractors, and other professionals
Stay updated on industry trends, building codes, and regulations to ensure compliance in design and construction processes.
Produce presentations for design meetings with clients.
Day-to-day:
Identify task list for projects and understand scope of work, difficulty of task, and the design research items for the day
Review tasks with director or overhead to discuss delegation, technical questions, or scope of work.
Delegate tasks to technical staff, providing technical training and assistance as required.
Build models, and create technical documents as assigned.
Quality control of technical staff, providing training and adherence to standards as required.
Write emails and detailed project log to clients
Request for meetings if advanced questions require a design meeting with a US person.
Participate in design meetings and provide updates and ask questions to the international team for feedback to push set forward.
Senior Architectural Designer Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master Degree in Architecture
PAM Part II Architectural Designer or equivalent. We will not be able to provide a pathway to professional licensure in Malaysia.
2-3 years of experience in an architectural studio
Excellent command of English, proficiency in other languages a plus
Strong command of BIM and CAD software. Experienced ArchiCAD users preferred.
Basic understanding of Building Codes and requirements—International Building Code (IBC) knowledge preferred
Experience coordinating with client and engineers
Construction Administration experience is a bonus

Our Work Culture
Yhrd (www.yhrd.work) is a small studio of 4-6 people working in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. We share an office with Bike Commute Malaysia. In addition to an office space, we have a small lasercutting studio.
On a typical weekday, we start working together at 10am and leave the studio at 6pm. Working from home is on an as-needed basis. Occasionally, US projects may require night calls usually taken from home.
