Job summary

EcoWorld International in Malaysia is seeking an Architect who will lead product design coordination and manage design inputs from external architects and consultants to ensure alignment with project objectives, regulatory compliance, and functional requirements.

You will bridge external design teams and internal stakeholders, oversee reviews, and ensure designs integrate with plans and approvals while maintaining schedule and budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field; qualification noted is advantageous if registered with LAM.
  • Minimum 5 years in architectural design coordination, regulatory approvals, or project planning.
  • Experience with township, mixed-use, or high-rise developments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design Coordination & Review: liaison between external architects, consultants, and internal teams; review designs for compliance and integration.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Approvals: prepare and submit Building Plan and Development Order documents; liaise with authorities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: work with planning, contracts, and sales teams to ensure feasibility and timely decisions.
  • Risk Management: identify design conflicts and mitigation strategies to avoid impact on approvals and timelines.

Role Summary The Architect is responsible for product design and management scope, inclusive of product concept development and visioning, reviewing, coordinating and managing design & technical inputs from external architects and consultants to ensure alignment with project objectives, regulatory compliance, and functional requirements. This role acts as the bridge between external design teams, internal stakeholders, and regulatory authorities, ensuring that project designs are well-integrated, practical, and compliant with development standards.

Key Outcomes
  • External consultants’ designs align with project vision, functional needs, and regulatory standards.
  • Regulatory approvals (e.g., Building Plan, Development Order) are obtained efficiently.
  • Design-related risks are identified and addressed early, ensuring smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Design Coordination & Review Act as the primary liaison between external architects, consultants, and internal teams. Review design proposals, architectural drawings, and masterplans to ensure compliance with project goals and regulations. Work with town planners, civil engineers, and MEP consultants to ensure design integration across disciplines. Coordinate design changes and technical resolutions with consultants to address project challenges. Conduct clash detection and design optimization using BIM 360.
  2. Regulatory Compliance & Approvals Ensure architectural designs comply with local building codes, planning regulations, and safety standards. Work with external consultants to prepare and submit approval documents (Building Plan, Development Order, etc.). Liaise with local authorities and government agencies to facilitate and expedite the approval process.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with Project Planning, Project Implementation, Contracts, and Sales & Marketing teams to ensure project feasibility. Communicate design-related constraints and opportunities to internal teams and senior management. Support value engineering discussions to optimize cost-effective design solutions.
  4. Risk Management & Problem-Solving Identify potential design conflicts, regulatory risks, or site constraints and propose mitigation strategies. Address client and internal stakeholder concerns related to project design and functionality. Ensure that design changes do not impact project approvals or execution timelines.

  • Technical Competencies: Architectural Design Review – Ability to evaluate external design proposals for feasibility, compliance, and quality. Regulatory & Approval Process – Understanding of building codes, zoning laws, and approval procedures in Malaysia. Design Coordination – Skilled in integrating inputs from architects, engineers, and planners for a cohesive project outcome. Technical Documentation Review – Ability to assess submission, tender and construction drawings, consultant reports, and approval documents.
  • Behavioural Competencies: Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement – Skilled in working with external consultants, government authorities, and internal teams. Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy in reviewing design documents, approval submissions, and regulatory requirements. Problem-Solving & Adaptability – Capable of identifying design challenges and coordinating practical solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or a related field. Registered with LAM (Board of Architects Malaysia) or equivalent is an advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in architectural design coordination, regulatory approvals, or project planning. Experience in township, mixed-use, or high-rise developments is preferred.
