The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) seeks an Aquatics Coach to enhance its Aquatics Department, actively supporting students’ aquatic education and safety. This role involves coaching, operational management of pool facilities, and fostering a positive learning environment in alignment with ISKL's mission to develop globally responsible citizens.
The purpose of this role is to actively support and enhance ISKL's standing as a leader in international education by contributing positively to its rich culture, diverse community, and strong reputation through the effective operation of the Aquatics Department. Recognizing the significant physical and cardiovascular benefits of swimming, the ISKL Aquatics Center, featuring a 50-meter pool among other facilities, provides essential aquatic education. This education equips students with vital life skills related to water safety and the ability to respond effectively in aquatic environments, potentially in life-saving situations.
To achieve this, the Aquatics Coach will work closely with and support the Aquatics Team Manager and PE Teachers in implementing policies and procedures that ensure the efficient, safe, and effective management of all pool facilities. Furthermore, this role involves actively engaging in the teaching of the aquatic unit within the PE curriculum. In all tasks, the Aquatics Coach is expected to embody and promote ISKL's vision, cultivating a harmonious and stimulating learning environment that sparks curiosity, cultivates vision, and inspires action, ultimately contributing to the collective success and alignment with ISKL'smission to develop highly successful and socially responsible global citizens. By consistently acting in 3 accordance with ISKL’s mission and vision, the Aquatics Coach fosters an engaging and supportive learning atmosphere where students are encouraged to explore, envision, and act, thereby playing a significant part in the overall educational success of ISKL and the development of well-rounded, globally-minded individuals.
RESPONSIBILITIES, inclusive but not limited to:
Safety & Operations:
Assist in ensuring that all swimming pool operations and its facilities are maintained in a safe and proper condition.
Support the adherence to all aspects of the ISKL Aquatics SOP, which is updated annually.
Support the aquatics team, including providing first aid in the absence of a school nurse, under the direction of the Head Coach or Aquatics Team Manager.
Assist in ensuring the safety of all swimmers during training and competitions, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
Coaching & Instruction:
Assist the Head Coach in providing structured and progressive coaching for intramural classes and swim meets, contributing to the development of training plans and providing technical instruction to swimmers of varying skill levels.
Under the guidance of the Head Coach, contribute to the development and implementation of age-appropriate training programs that focus on stroke technique, endurance, speed, and race strategy.
Provide constructive feedback and guidance to swimmers to foster their development and improvement, as directed by the Head Coach.
Assist the Head Coach in monitoring swimmers' progress and providing input for adjustments to training plans.
Attend and supervise swim practices and competitions, providing guidance and support to swimmers alongside the Head Coach.
Carry out swimming tests if and when necessary, as directed.
Assist teachers in the supervision and instruction of swimming classes.
Stay up-to-date on the latest coaching techniques and best practices in swimming, and share relevant information with the Head Coach.
Support the Aquatics’ comprehensive swim program, inclusive of curricular swimming programs, learn-to-swim programs, various competitive swim programs, and recreational swim programs, as directed.
Assist the leadership in managing the community outreach for aquatics events outside of the ISKL community.
Foster a positive and motivating team environment that encourages sportsmanship and teamwork, in collaboration with the Head Coach.
Carry out any other duties as assigned by the HS Athletics Director or Aquatics Team Manager.
Technical skills
The ability to swim well, and has good physical fitness and stamina, with life-saving skills or water rescue competencies
Excellent organizational, communication, and public relations skills
Reliable, professional, and responsible, with attention to detail
Must practice optimal surveillance of swimming areas and peacefully enforce ISKL facility rules and regulations to maintain swimmer safety at all times
Equipped with the awareness of health and safety procedures
The ability to remain calm and react appropriately in an emergency
Personal attributes

Must have the ability to interact well with all within the ISKL community, be able to navigate and be respectful in multinational settings

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
At least 3 years of related experience
CPR/AED Training and Certification
Learn-to-swim certified: Eg. AUSTSWIM TSW or any other or any other qualifications that are similar or equivalent in terms of relevance and level
