Job Overview
Receive, process, negotiate & submit material cost solutions for new business opportunities (bid to bid & bid to buy) as well as manage appropriate validation of customer re-pricing
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages supplier RFQ process for specific Commodity groups (Mechanical - Metal and Plastic parts) across multiple projects to ensure all costing due dates are achieved.
- Lead component level supplier negotiations to establish competitive cost solutions.
- Drive supplier growth scorecard performance improvement.
- Commodity expertise – depth knowledge of key commodity cost drivers & sensitivities, performs general pricing & supply market trend analytics.
- Supplier expertise - understands capabilities of key suppliers and develop effective supplier relationships
- Develop & execute commodity strategy including competitive benchmarking, delivering a commodity strategy enabling the overall program strategy, supplier analysis, development & selection.
- Able to identify and justify alternate component solutions.
- Able to provide competitive cost estimate for complex parts.
- Provides insight and recommendations to support proposed solutions to key stakeholders.
- Updates material cost, analyzes components for competitiveness and customer compliance, review with management.
Experience
- 3 – 6 years experience (aligned to position seniority) in purchasing, supply chain, commodity or engineering environment

- Supply Chain experience - Commercial aptitude & awareness at component, commodity level or industry level.
- Able to compare products and identify feature and technical differences.
- Able to read and can understand technical drawings
- Supplier Knowledge - Preferred Supplier Listings / Associated alternatives / Component Part Numbering / Franchised Distribution
- Strong technical experience with associated commodity
- Strong systems skills, including common office platforms such as MS Office and Access.
- Ability to consolidate, manipulate and analyze large quantities of data.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (Commerce or Engineering), or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supply Chain Management designation would be an asset
- Business or Engineering related degree, 3 – 10 years experience (aligned to position seniority) in purchasing, commodity or engineering environment
- Overnight Travel: Occasional > 5% of the time
