Job summary

Seagate Technology in Penang, Malaysia, is seeking an AI-Native Developer Intern to help turn factory and business challenges into practical AI-enabled solutions. You will build, test, and improve prototypes combining software, data, and Generative AI under guidance from senior engineers.

You will learn to design prompts, implement RAG workflows, connect to data sources, and apply basic CI/CD practices, all while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a global environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or pursuing a degree in a related technical field.
• Familiarity with Python, SQL, and data tooling as part of coursework or projects.
• Exposure to GenAI concepts, RAG, and AI-enhanced applications.

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance AI-native features for internal applications (conversational experiences, summarization, classification).
• Prototype AI-enabled solutions using prompt design, templates, structured outputs, and lightweight evaluations.
• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows with embeddings and vector search.
• Develop scripts or small services that connect applications to enterprise data sources and LLM endpoints.
• Use SQL and Python to prepare data, validate outputs, and create datasets for AI features and reporting.
• Contribute to AI agents that automate multi-step tasks with human oversight and responsible AI practices.
• Experiment with evaluation approaches to assess relevance, accuracy, safety, and usefulness, iterating based on results.

About The Role - You Will

As an AI-Native Developer Intern, you will help turn business and factory challenges into practical AI-enabled solutions. You will learn by building, testing, and improving prototypes that combine software engineering, data, and Generative AI, with guidance from experienced engineers and cross-functional partners.

• Build and enhance AI-native features for internal applications, including conversational experiences, summarization, classification, information extraction, and decision support.
• Prototype solutions using modern Generative AI techniques such as prompt design, prompt templates, structured outputs, tool use, and lightweight evaluations.
• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows by preparing documents, creating embeddings, managing metadata, and connecting to vector search services under guidance.
• Develop scripts, APIs, or small services that connect applications to enterprise data sources and large language model endpoints.
• Use SQL and Python to prepare data, validate outputs, troubleshoot issues, and create simple datasets for AI features and reporting.
• Contribute to AI agents that automate multi-step tasks and improve factory intelligence, while keeping human oversight, reliability, and responsible AI practices in mind.
• Experiment with evaluation approaches to assess relevance, accuracy, consistency, safety, and user usefulness, then iterate based on results and feedback.
• Follow engineering practices such as version control, code reviews, unit testing, documentation, and basic CI/CD.

Your Experience Includes

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline.
• Programming experience in Python or a similar language, demonstrated through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or previous internships.
• Basic SQL knowledge, including SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY, and simple data validation or troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, Git, and clean coding practices.
• Exposure to Generative AI concepts such as large language models, prompting, RAG, AI agents, safety considerations, and output evaluation.
• Basic understanding of data preparation for structured or unstructured information.
• Experience with GenAI frameworks, embeddings, vector databases or search, function or tool calling, or model evaluation.
• Familiarity with web or user-interface development for chat, assistant, dashboard, or workflow experiences.
• Awareness of containers, microservices, cloud services, CI/CD, logging, monitoring, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with common data formats and lightweight data processing, such as CSV, JSON, Parquet, or basic ETL concepts.
• A portfolio, Git repository, or project demonstration that shows how you approach a problem and learn through iteration.
