Job description

Overview

The Revenue Accounting department is responsible for reviewing customer contracts in line with proper revenue accounting treatment, making recommendations on revenue recognition strategies, determining treatment of multi-element deliverables and general accounting functions such as journal entries, month-end close, revenue allocations and monthly/quarterly audits. Quest Software has adapted RevPro in order to comply with the new revenue accounting standard ASC 606 - Revenue From Contracts With Customers on February 1, 2019.

Responsibilities

The Revenue Senior Advisor will be responsible for reviewing and recording revenue in accordance with ASC 606, ensuring that monthly and quarterly deadlines are achieved. Key responsibilities include:

  • Review of deals and Revenue Contracts that closed within the fiscal month and ensure proper accounting on any revenue adjustments required in line with revenue accounting guidance
  • Month end close including general ledger account reconciliations within the month end/quarter end close timetable for deferred revenue
  • Work with Sales Operations and Accounts Receivable to improve the quote to cash cycle
  • Work proactively and cross-functionally with the Contracts and Sales Operations teams to reduce the number of revenue/cost issues that result in non-standard processing of revenue transactions
  • Apply a strong work ethic to work in real time with business units on non-standard revenue transactions to ensure that relevant accounting issues are identified, resolved, and appropriately documented
  • Provide support to the business units in up-front structuring of transactions
  • Assist to develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls
  • Stay current on new revenue accounting rules and help develop appropriate policies and processes
  • Participate in ad-hoc Finance projects as they come up
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Accounting, CPA or professional qualification preferred
  • 5 or more years of relevant accounting experience in industry and/or public accounting
  • Accounting experience in a software company
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Excellent organization skills and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple, competing tasks simultaneously
  • Experience with an Accounting ERP system, experience with Oracle and/or RevPro a plus
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships within and across departments
  • Strong Excel skills and computer skills required
  • Hands on, be part of a team that helps the company develop processes and procedures as we grow, willingness to get into the detail
  • Strong analytical skills and team-work qualities
