Job description

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include major public cloud and silicon providers, as well as industry leaders across sectors. The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing. We are hiring a Solutions Architect for Automotive to help our partners (e.g., Mercedes, Ford, GM, Elektrobit, Intel, Nvidia, Google, Dell, HP, Accenture, Tata) and prospects understand and adopt our open source platform.

Our worldwide field engineering team applies expert insights to real-world customer problems, enabling enterprise adoption of Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps, and related technologies. We are experts across the open source stack, from kernel to desktop, from cloud to embedded. We continuously expand our offerings to enhance security, management, and developer experience in small Linux environments and devices. Our team also focuses on business challenges—building reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions—and learning to speak the language of our customers and their industries.

Beyond automotive expertise, this role requires a unique blend of skills. Successful candidates will have strong Linux knowledge, be proficient coders and scripters, and have experience with low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development. They should enjoy dynamic client engagements with ambitious technology entrepreneurs. Competitive, business-oriented technologists who are team players and take pride in collective wins will thrive.

Our field engineers are trusted to provide thorough, well-informed answers to customer inquiries about our solutions and products. We prioritize doing the best for our partners and customers, regardless of company interests.

Location: This is a home-based role, open worldwide.

Daily responsibilities include:

  1. Engaging customers during presales to gather requirements and explain our technology
  2. Collaborating with other Canonical experts to develop comprehensive solutions
  3. Participating in the delivery of projects related to Embedded Linux, including demos and PoCs
  4. Conveying market requirements internally and contributing to solution development
  5. Acting as a customer advocate and trusted advisor

If you are passionate about open source technologies in Automotive, interested in Software Defined Vehicles, and eager to adapt Cloud tech to embedded environments, you'll enjoy working at Canonical.

Candidate profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Extensive Linux experience (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Solid embedded Linux experience (Yocto or RTOS)
  • Proficiency in Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust
  • Fluent in English and local language
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Customer engagement interest, including pitching and understanding environments
  • Result-oriented with multitasking ability
  • Reliable and quick learner
  • Relevant automotive industry experience
  • Willing to travel up to 30%

Additional skills (optional):

  • Experience with ISO26262 and/or ISO21434
  • Experience in customer engagement

What we offer:

  • Global remote work with biannual in-person team sprints
  • USD 2,000 annual learning budget
  • Annual pay reviews and bonuses
  • Comprehensive benefits including leave, parental leave, assistance programs, travel opportunities, and travel upgrades
