Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction
Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Some roles may accept equivalent experience in lieu of a formal degree, especially if the
candidate has extensive practical experience in construction safety.
Certifications:
OSHA Certification:
o OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health Certification (required by many
employers).
o OSHA 500 (Trainer Course for Construction Industry).
NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health):
o NEBOSH Construction Certificate (an internationally recognized qualification).
First Aid & CPR Certification: Often required to respond quickly to any on-site
emergencies.
Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification by the Board of
Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is a plus.
Work Experience:
At least 3-5 years of on-site construction experience, working in roles like safety
officer, supervisor, or foreman.
Familiarity with safety regulations specific to the construction industry (e.g., local, state,
and federal laws).
Key Skills:
Risk Assessment: Ability to identify potential hazards and implement measures to
mitigate risks.
Knowledge of Safety Programs: Experience with safety management systems like ISO
45001.
Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead safety meetings, conduct training, and
communicate safety policies effectively.
Problem-Solving: Quickly addressing safety concerns and resolving them before they
escalate.
