Job description

Objective:

To treat lymphedema conditions.

DETAILED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Diagnosing and managing the various types of lymphedema (primary and secondary ) in all its different stages
  • Managing primary lymphedema affecting the upper, lower limbs, face and genitalia
  • Providing care for patients with secondary lymphedema such as those cancer related, phlebolymphedema and post-surgical (such as plastic surgery lymphatic collection)
  • Diagnosing and managing lip edema pre and post operatively in all its various stages and types
  • Providing care for complicated lipo-lymphedema diagnoses.
  • Treating patients with edema pertaining to different etiologies
  • Apply lymphedema compression therapy to patients with chronic open wounds
  • Long-term care to ensure optimal quality of life for those diagnosed with primary and secondary lymphedema as well as lipedema/lipo-lymphedema
  • Techniques required to perform daily clinical duties include being able to apply bandaging techniques (using short-stretch bandaging) and perform manual lymphatic drainage. This also includes assessing and recommending appropriate compression products
  • The practitioner must be familiar with reading and interpreting vascular laboratory studies such as ankle-brachial index (ABI/PVR) and vascular ultrasound in order to facilitate the proper lymphedema therapy
