Overview
This position will be physically located in Kuwait in support of LOGCAP.
Under supervision of Carpenter Lead and/or Trade Shop Supervisor, the Locksmith Senior installs, repairs, modifies, and opens a variety of locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults. Examines locking mechanisms, installs new units, disassembles units, replaces worn parts, or repairs them. Opens door locks using lock picks or by drilling, and opens safe locks by listening to sounds or drilling. Makes new or duplicate keys with key cutting machines, changes combinations by inserting new or repaired tumblers, and establishes keying systems for buildings.
Responsibilities

- Cuts new or duplicate keys using key cutting machines.
- Opens safes using drilling or manipulation techniques.
- Installs new or repaired tumblers into locks to change safe combinations.
- Opens locked doors without working keys by using lock picks.
- Disassembles mechanical or electrical locking devices; repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
- Repairs and adjusts safes, vault doors, and vault components.
- Removes and applies interior and exterior finishes on safes and vaults.
- Provides locksmith services and assists locked-out individuals in gaining access to their residences.
- Conducts preventative maintenance inspections of lock assemblies.
- Issues and receives keys and maintains spare keys in accordance with AR 190-51.
- Conducts periodic key-control inventories to ensure accountability.
- Maintains supplies such as locksmith tools, hand tools, key blanks, and tags.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education/Certifications:
- One year related experience may substitute for one year of education, if a degree is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; must provide a copy.
- Locksmith certification required.
- Registered safe technician preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a host nation Driver's License required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of locksmith experience.
- Knowledge of various lock types, key fabrication, lock changing, and tool use.
- Understanding of safety directives regarding locksmith equipment.
- Skills:
- Stay updated on locksmith techniques and apply new knowledge.
- Service and maintain all types of locking systems and hardware.
- Troubleshoot and rebuild locks, cylinders, and locksets.
- Gain keyless entry using standard locksmith tools.
- Fabricate keys by code using standard equipment.
- Knowledge of MS Office applications preferred.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
- Work independently without supervision.
- Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise junior locksmiths.
- Working Conditions:
- Capable of working in extreme weather exceeding 120°F.
- Indoor and outdoor environments with harsh conditions.
- Physical Requirements:
- Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently.
- May involve heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing/sitting, and exposure to hazards.
- Use of PPE required in some situations.
- Must comply with safety regulations and policies.
