Job Overview
The Environmental Specialist applies their conceptual knowledge of environmental issues and key business drivers to solve straightforward environmental problems with moderate guidance from leadership. They analyze solutions using technical experience and standard procedures, building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. They may act as a lead, coordinating the work of others, balancing field-based and administrative duties, and working comfortably in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Maintain familiarity with all company and project-specific HSES terms, requirements, and deliverables, including critical activities such as engineering, construction, operations, and contractor interfaces.
- Stay informed about local and international environmental laws, codes, and regulations.
- Identify and ensure adherence to applicable regulatory requirements, including monitoring compliance.
- Assist in developing and implementing environmental plans, procedures, and instructions aligned with corporate, regulatory, and international standards like ISO 14001.
- Liaise with statutory and regulatory bodies for license renewals, clearances, and permits related to project compliance.
- Provide environmental guidance to supervision and field personnel.
- Monitor compliance through audits, performance monitoring, and inspections.
- Establish monitoring tools, set objectives, and analyze data statistically.
- Participate in risk assessments and maintain risk registries.
- Prepare environmental aspects and impacts registers and other risk reviews, maintaining up-to-date records.
- Support internal and external HSE audits and compliance programs.
- Assist in prequalifying subcontractors and vendors environmentally.
- Monitor subcontractors and vendors for compliance with environmental requirements.
- Contribute SME input to procedures and training reviews.
- Lead or participate in environmental investigations following incidents or non-compliances.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented and reports completed.
- Participate in environmental initiatives and campaigns, develop toolbox talks, and support communication efforts.
- Assist in environmental data collection, reporting, and analysis.
- Contribute to the annual sustainability report.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s level education (e.g., MBA) is preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with technical activities in onshore and offshore operations.
- Familiarity with local and international environmental laws and standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in statistical and data analysis.
- Experience with ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) preferred.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs.
- Good interpersonal, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
- Project management experience and knowledge of platforms like RegScan, Intelex, FigBytes, and PowerBI are preferred.
