Job description

***This position is physically located in Kuwait in support of LOGCAP***

Under the Supervision of the Lead the COMSEC Custodian/Repairman troubleshoots and repairs all COMSEC/controlled cryptographic devices and other electronic equipment (e.g. receiver/transmitters, both commercial and tactical, circuit cards, telecommunications devices, telephones, teletypes, intrusion detection systems, AOAP spectrometer and similar items and equipment). The Repairman shall perform field maintenance on intercommunications systems in tactical vehicles, night vision devices, and ground surveillance radars (GSRs). When directed by the Lead or Supervisor, the Repairman shall perform Field Maintenance on Communications Security (COMSEC) and Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI) materiel.

Responsibilities
  • Test faulty equipment and applies comprehensive technical knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause(s) of malfunctions and to solve complex problems.
  • Tests electronic equipment using such tools as multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes among others.
  • May replace defective components and wiring and adjust mechanical parts using tools, soldering iron or other equipment as necessary.
  • Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and must use judgment and experience in planning work sequentially and in the selection of appropriate tools and test instruments.
  • Aligns, adjusts and calibrates electronic equipment according to specifications. Ensuring error-free execution of data maintenance processes and projects according to user requirements.
  • Maintains written records of repairs, calibration, tests and time expenditure. Work may be checked for completeness and accuracy by a QC/QA. Creating reports and data extracts to support the data maintenance process.
  • Primary repairer of all COMSEC and controlled cryptographic equipment. Analyzing datasets to uncover data anomalies or quality issues.
  • Repairman uses schematics, blueprints and manufacturer's specifications and using a variety of hand tools and test equipment, as well as, a comprehensive knowledge of electronic circuits.
  • Technician must have knowledge of communication equipment including but not limited to: Single Channel Ground and Airborne System (SINCGARS) radios and associated cryptographic devices, antennas, accessory and installation kits for military vehicles and equipment.
  • The Repairman shall perform field maintenance on intercommunications systems in tactical vehicles, night vision devices, and ground surveillance radars (GSRs).
  • May be called upon to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • High School Graduate or equivalent.
    • Completion of formal military or civilian training in electronics maintenance is required.
    • Completion of Pace soldering Level I and II training strongly desired.
    • Must be school trained on AN/GRM 122 test equipment.
    • Must be able to obtain a Host Country Driver's License.
  • Clearance Requirements:
    • Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Experience:
    • Five years practical experience in electronics repair/maintenance strongly preferred with at least two of those years at the sustainment maintenance level.
  • Skills:
    • Collaborative work style fostering cooperation and teamwork.
    • Ability to work effectively with employees and management of all levels to include multi-national staff, superiors, and ranking military officers.
    • Ability to handle confidential company and employee information with complete discretion.
    • Intermediate ability to communicate in English, both verbally and written.
    • Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook applications.
    • High-level organization and planning skills so workflow is managed efficiently and accurately.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports and documents.
    • Technician must have knowledge of communication equipment including but not limited to: Single Channel Ground and Airborne System (SINCGARS) radios and associated cryptographic devices, antennas, accessory and installation kits for military vehicles and equipment.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
