Job description

We are seeking a dedicated, full-time Composting Expert / Waste Management Specialist to design, implement, and maintain a robust composting system for cow manure management. The successful candidate will be actively involved in both planning and daily operations, assisting in the building and long-term maintenance of a composting factory and system.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess current waste management practices and identify areas for improvement.
  2. Design and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive composting system tailored to local conditions.
  3. Provide technical expertise in composting methods (windrow, in-vessel, or other suitable techniques).
  4. Create, plan, supervise and execute a composting/fermentation process with guidelines.
  5. Assist in the procurement, installation, and maintenance of composting equipment and infrastructure.
  6. Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations in Kuwait.
  7. Develop daily protocols for collection, handling, processing, and quality control of cow manure.
  8. Work full-time on site and manage the daily composting operations.
  9. Train farm staff on composting best practices and ensure proper execution.
  10. Continuously monitor processes and adjust for efficiency, compost quality, and environmental safety.
  11. Provide detailed monthly reports on progress, challenges, and improvements.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Waste Management, or related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years of practical experience in composting and manure management, preferably on large-scale dairy or livestock farms.
  3. Strong knowledge of composting processes, organic waste management, and environmental compliance.
  4. Experience with factory setup, equipment selection, and facility design.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
  6. Strong communication, leadership, and training abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience working in the Middle East or in hot/arid climates.
  2. Familiarity with local environmental regulations in Kuwait.
  3. Ability to speak Arabic is an advantage.

Terms of Reference (TOR):

1. Background:

The farm currently produces a significant volume of cow manure daily. The objective is to convert this organic waste into a valuable resource through proper composting, reducing environmental impact, and creating a high-value product.

2. Objectives:

  1. Establish and maintain a sustainable, full-scale composting system and factory.
  2. Reduce environmental risks associated with manure storage and disposal.
  3. Produce marketable, nutrient-rich compost for internal use and external sale.

3. Scope of Work:

  1. Conduct a site and operations assessment.
  2. Design and assist in building a composting factory and robust operational system.
  3. Assist in the procurement and setup of composting equipment and infrastructure.
  4. Develop daily operational protocols and safety measures.
  5. Supervise day-to-day composting operations.
  6. Provide ongoing monitoring, troubleshooting, and improvement recommendations.
  7. Deliver training workshops and continuous on-site coaching for staff.

4. Deliverables:

  1. Initial assessment and implementation report.
  2. Full composting system and factory setup.
  3. Monthly progress, operational, and quality control reports.
  4. Final report after six months with recommendations for ongoing improvements and scalability.

5. Working Hours:

Full-day, on-site presence required (6 days per week).

6. Reporting:

The expert will report directly to the Farm Manager and Owner.
