Job Summary:The Beekeeper is responsible for the care and management of honeybee colonies for honey production, pollination services, and hive product harvesting (e.g., beeswax, royal jelly, propolis). This role involves monitoring bee health, managing hives, harvesting products, and ensuring compliance with safety and agricultural standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain and manage bee colonies in hives across various locations.
- Inspect hives regularly to assess bee health, queen activity, and colony strength.
- Monitor for diseases, pests (e.g., Varroa mites), and other health risks; apply treatments as needed.
- Feed bees and provide water sources during dry seasons or low forage periods.
- Split hives, requeen colonies, and manage swarming behavior.
- Harvest honey, beeswax, and other hive products, ensuring cleanliness and quality.
- Maintain beekeeping equipment (hives, smokers, protective gear).
- Transport hives to agricultural sites for pollination contracts (if applicable).
- Keep accurate records of hive activity, treatments, and production.
- Comply with local beekeeping laws and biosecurity regulations.
Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent; certificate or training in beekeeping is a plus.
- Prior experience with beekeeping preferred, but training can be provided.
- Knowledge of honeybee biology, diseases, and seasonal behavior.
- Physical ability to lift hive boxes and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
- Willingness to work with bees and wear protective gear.
- Valid driver’s license (if travel to apiary sites is required).
