Job summary

softnotions-team in Kerala is seeking a skilled WordPress Developer to independently handle maintenance, enhancements, and new feature development across multiple WordPress websites.

This role requires deep understanding of WordPress internals, including Gutenberg, theme/child theme architecture, custom plugin development, WordPress APIs, and performance & SEO best practices. You will collaborate with designers and backend teams, maintaining code with Git.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with WordPress core development.

• Proficiency in PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.
• Experience with page builders (Elementor/WPBakery) and extend/optimize beyond basics.

• Familiarity with performance optimization and caching techniques.
• Experience using Git/version control.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot existing WordPress websites.
• Develop custom WordPress themes and child themes based on design requirements.
• Customize and extend Gutenberg blocks and block-based themes.
• Build and maintain custom WordPress plugins for business needs.
• Handle WordPress core, plugin, and theme updates safely without breaking features.
• Work with WordPress hooks to extend functionality.
• Develop and consume WordPress REST APIs for integrations.
• Implement custom post types, taxonomies, and meta fields.
• Ensure compatibility with WordPress coding standards and best practices.
• Optimize website performance and security; support SEO activities.
• Ensure proper SEO structure: metadata, schema, URLs, performance, and mobile friendliness.

Key Responsibilities

WordPress Development & Maintenance

• Maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot existing WordPress websites.
• Develop custom WordPress themes and child themes based on design requirements.
• Customize and extend Gutenberg blocks and block-based themes.
• Build andmaintaincustom WordPress plugins to implement business-specific functionality.
• Handle WordPress core, plugin, and theme updates safely without breaking existing features.

Core WordPress & APIs

• Work with WordPress Hooks (Actions & Filters) to extend functionality.
• Develop and consume WordPress REST APIs forintegrations.
• Implement custom post types, taxonomies, and meta fields.
• Ensure compatibility with WordPress coding standards and best practices.

Performance, Security & SEO

• Optimizewebsite performance (caching, asset optimization, query optimization).
• Implement basic WordPress security best practices (nonces, sanitization, escaping).
• Support SEO activities using WordPress tools (Yoast,RankMath, or similar).
• Ensure proper SEO structure: metadata, schema, URLs, performance, and mobile friendliness.

Collaboration & Quality

• Work closely with designers, backend teams, and project leads /stake holders.
• Perform debugging and root-cause analysis for production issues.
• Maintain clean, documented, and version-controlled code (Git).

Must-Have Technical Skills
