Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Wind Turbine Blade Quality Engineer to oversee the quality assurance and control processes for our wind turbine blades. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and high-performance standards of blades throughout their lifecycle, from manufacturing to field operation. This role requires a strong understanding of composite materials, non‑destructive testing methods, and quality management systems to minimize defects and maximize blade longevity.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and control procedures for the manufacturing and repair of wind turbine blades.
- Conduct and supervise inspections, including both visual and non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic and thermography, to identify defects.
- Analyze inspection data and manufacturing process results to identify trends and potential areas for improvement.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure compliance with design specifications, industry standards, and quality protocols.
- Perform root cause analysis for blade defects and failures, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Manage and maintain accurate quality documentation, including inspection reports, material certifications, and non‑conformance reports (NCRs).
- Participate in supplier audits to ensure material quality and process integrity.
- Provide technical support and training to field service technicians on blade inspection and repair techniques.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, or a related field).
- Proven experience in a quality engineering or quality control role, with a focus on composite materials.
- Knowledge of wind turbine blade manufacturing processes and materials (fiberglass, carbon fiber, resins).
- Certifications in NDT methods (e.g., Level II in UT or VT) are highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with 3D modeling software and CAD tools.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as GL, DNV, and IEC.
- Knowledge of aerodynamic principles and blade performance.
