Job summary

ExxonMobil in Bengaluru seeks a Wells Quality Engineer for Downhole Completion Equipment. You will ensure supplier quality through QA/QC processes, perform supplier audits, and drive conformance to API and ExxonMobil standards.

The role emphasizes risk mitigation, NCR/RFE handling, and collaboration with Wells teams globally. The position requires a mechanical/manufacturing engineering background and strong NDT and API knowledge, with potential leadership in audits and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering from a recognized university.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas completion equipment quality.
  • CGPA minimum of 7.0 out of 10.
  • Experience with Downhole Completion Equipment manufacturing/testing.
  • NDT Level II certification in MPT/UT/LPT/RT/VT.
  • Strong knowledge of API specifications for completion equipment.
  • Lead Auditor certification in ISO 9001 or API Q1/Q2 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve supplier Quality Control Plans and Inspection Test Plans for Downhole Completion Equipment, OCTG and Wellhead equipment.
  • Steward supplier evaluations, facility qualifications and API Q1 compliance audits.
  • Support Wells procurement to align with Wells Quality Manual and documentation packages.
  • Lead supplier assessments to ensure API Q1 and industry standards compliance.
  • Use SPC and quality data to identify trends and mitigate risks.
  • Conduct pre-production meetings with suppliers to ensure conformance with requirements.
  • Ensure completion equipment is manufactured, inspected and tested per specs.
  • Organize verification programs with Third Party Inspectors for conformance.
  • Assist with NCRs and RFEs resolution and close-out.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis for equipment failures.
  • Maintain knowledge of API specs and ExxonMobil Quality procedures.

What role you will play in our team

The Wells Quality Engineer – Downhole Completion Equipment is a broad role definition for individuals, generally with a sound engineering background focusing on Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities related to equipment manufacturing activities supporting the ExxonMobil Global Wells Teams. This role focusses on application of risk mitigations through quality best practices and processes to ensure integrity and compliance of materials, products, and equipment to industry and specified requirements. This position is embedded in the technical center (based in Bengaluru) and provides quality expertise and support to business units and the global Wells Quality network.

  • Responsible for review and approval of supplier Quality Control Plans and Inspection Test Plans for Downhole Completion Equipment, OCTG and Wellhead and tree equipment.
  • Steward supplier evaluations and assessments, facility qualifications and API Q1 compliance audits.
  • Provide assistance to Wells procurement teams to incorporate Wells Quality Manual (WQM) and associated Appendices into quality exhibits for tender documentation packages.
  • Lead or support supplier assessments to ensure compliance with the ExxonMobil Quality specifications, API Q1 and industry standards such as API 11D1, API 14A, API 14L, API 19LH, API 19SS, API 19G1, etc.
  • Utilize statistical process control (SPC) and quality performance data to identify trends, mitigate risks, and improve processes.
  • Conduct Pre-Production or kick-off meetings with suppliers to ensure their processes and products meet all quality requirements.
  • Ensure all completion equipment (e.g., Screens, Packers, Safety valves and Liner Hangers) is manufactured, inspected and tested as per ExxonMobil and API specifications.
  • Organize, plan, and supervise verification programs directly or via Third Party Inspectors (TPIs) to ensure conformance with the applicable ExxonMobil specifications and industry standards.
  • Ensure appropriate budget allocation for Third Party inspection agencies in collaboration with Wells Teams.
  • Assists Wells Engineering staff with resolution of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and Requests-for-Exception (RFEs).
  • Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and failure investigations for Downhole Completion Equipment’s failures or non-conformities.
  • Review TPI inspection reports, ensure outstanding concerns and issues are effectively addressed by the supplier prior to releasing the equipment for dispatch to project site locations.
  • Maintain sound understanding of API specifications and ExxonMobil Quality procedures.
  • Maintain strong relationships with ExxonMobil Principal Engineers, Wells team, and suppliers to resolve quality-related issues and ensure compliance with quality requirements.
About you Skills and Qualifications
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing or Equivalent) as a minimum.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas completion equipment manufacturing/services in the field of Quality.
  • Candidate must have a minimum CGPA of 7.0 out of 10.
  • Must have experience in manufacturing and testing Downhole Completion Equipment such as Screens, Packer, Bridge Plug, Safety Valve, Gas Lift Mandrel and Liner Hanger system.
  • Must hold NDT Level II certification in MPT, UT, LPT, RT and VT.
  • Strong Knowledge of API specifications for completion equipment such as API 11D1, API 14A, API 14L, API 19LH, API 19SS and API 19G1 etc.
  • Experienced and familiar with API and proprietary premium connection (VAM, Tenaris, JFE and Hunting), rotary connection inspection and threading operations.
  • Certification or welding experience (through a recognized body like AWS/CSWIP 3.1/3.2) is preferable.
  • Certification as a Lead Auditor to ISO 9001 or API Q1 or Q2.
  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
