Job summary

ExxonMobil in Bengaluru seeks experienced Wells Research Engineers specializing in multiphase flow analysis. You will provide technology development support for upstream wells and CCS projects, collaborating with wells, reservoir, geoscience, and data science teams to advance innovative solutions.

The role emphasizes research planning, milestones, documentation, and leadership while applying Ansys Fluent or Olga to CFD problems, scripting for automation, and delivering insights to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Masters with thesis or PhD in petroleum/chemical/mechanical/civil engineering with GPA 7.0 or higher.
  • 3+ years of research experience in multiphase flow modeling and simulation.
  • Knowledge of petroleum engineering concepts (drilling, completion, production) is a plus.
  • Experience with Ansys Fluent or Olga for CFD/multiphase analysis problems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on multiphase flow analysis challenges across well lifecycle (drilling, completions, production) for Upstream Wells and CCS developments.
  • Identify improvement opportunities in current design methodologies and technologies; propose solutions.
  • Scripting for automation, solving numerical problems, optimization, proxy modelling and basic GUI deployments.
  • Plan research work for solving problems; break down into milestones and deliver insights to stakeholders.
  • Perform fit-for-purpose flow analysis using appropriate software and tools.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to improve system design and operational procedures.
  • Integrate findings with adjacent disciplines to enhance well performance and mitigate risks.
  • Provide technical leadership in areas of expertise and train others.

What role you will play in our team

We are seeking experienced research engineers in the oil and gas industry or related field, specializing in multiphase fluid flow analysis. As a Wells Research Engineer at ExxonMobil, you’ll provide technology development support for diverse projects, including Upstream Wells and Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) using multiphase flow analysis expertise. You will contribute to ideation, planning, documentation, development, stewardship, and execution of innovative technologies through collaboration with multi‑discipline teams (wells, reservoir, geoscience, data science, operations).

  • Conduct research on multiphase flow analysis related challenges through oil and gas well lifecycle (Drilling, completions, production) for Upstream and CCS developments.

  • Perform fit for purpose flow analysis using appropriate software and tools.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to offer research insights and improve system design and operational procedures for safe and cost‑effective execution of operations.
  • Integrate findings with adjacent disciplines (reservoir, geoscience, operations) to enhance well performance and mitigate risks.
  • Provide technical leadership in the specific areas of expertise and develop/train others.
About You

Skills and Qualifications

  • Masters with thesis or PhD degree from a recognized university in petroleum/chemical/mechanical/ civil engineering disciplines with minimum GPA 7.0.
  • 3+ years of research (academic/industry) experience in multiphase flow modeling and simulation partially or fully in Upstream/Wells or related technology development.
  • Knowledge of petroleum engineering concepts, including wells drilling, completion designs, production analysis will be an added advantage.
  • Experience with Engineering Applications such as Ansys Fluent, Olga for solving Computational Fluid Dynamics or multiphase flow analysis problems.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience
  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as MATLAB/Python will be preferred.
  • Experience in computational and/or data science (e.g., machine learning, optimization) will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience of working in research/technology development, ability to research plan and lead.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, communication and leadership skills are essential.
  • Strong analytical skills for data‑driven decision‑making.
