Job summary

SLB in Pune, a leader in engineering solutions, seeks a Materials Engineer to evaluate materials, processes and suppliers and advise product groups on materials issues. You will apply advanced knowledge to design projects, perform material testing, develop new materials, and write specifications.

Lead an engineering team and provide material consulting to engineers, customers and suppliers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate or postgraduate in Mechanical/Production/Automobile engineering.
• 8+ years in design engineering of automobile/material handling/special purpose machines/process equipment.
• 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Advise on material selection, property data and failure avoidance.
• Develop and evaluate new materials through characterization, testing and analysis.
• Develop, evaluate and qualify special processes such as welding, heat treating, compounding and extrusion, and their applications.
• Write materials and process specifications and standards.
• Perform failure and predictive analyses, and data analysis to develop advancements for products.
• Provide material consultation to engineers, field locations and customers.
• Review and approve contract/subcontract statements of work and specifications.
• Prepare and maintain procurement source control documentation; assign quality requirements.
• Interface with suppliers and subcontractors on material activities.
• Produce detailed technical reports and presentations.

Job description

The Materials Engineer is responsible for evaluating new materials, processes and suppliers. The Materials Engineer consults with Product Groups on materials related issues. This person applies seasoned technical knowledge to various engineering projects on materials and material processing issues.

• Advise on material selection, property data and failure avoidance.
• Develop and evaluate new materials through characterization, testing and analysis.
• Develop, evaluate and qualify special processes such as welding, heat treating, compounding and extrusion, and their applications.
• Write materials and process specifications and standards.
• Perform failure and predictive analyses, and data analysis to develop advancements for products, focusing on material selection, modification and processing effects.
• Provide material consultation to InTouch engineers, field locations and customers.
• Provide material engineering review and approval of contract and subcontract statements of work and specifications.
• Prepare and maintain source control and other procurement documentation and guidance for material procurement activities; assign quality requirements for procurements and subcontracts.
• Interface with suppliers and subcontractor representatives on material related activities.
• Produce detailed technical reports and provide effective technical presentations.

Graduate / Post-graduate in engineering (Mechanical/Production/Automobile)

Practical experience of 8 + years in design engineering of Automobile/material handling/Special purpose machines/Process equipment with exposure to manufacturing/fabrication

5+ years of experience in leading engineering team
