Job summary

Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) in Pune seeks a Web Developer (Full Stack, WordPress & Digital Operations) to manage and secure existing WordPress sites and support in-house web apps. The role covers website management, SEO/GEO optimisation, and security hardening.

The candidate should have 2–3 years of web development experience, WordPress theme/plugin knowledge, PHP basics, and exposure to cloud hosting (AWS/Azure). Collaboration with Communications & IT teams is essential.

Qualifications

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a proactive and versatile Web Developer (Full Stack, WordPress & Digital Operations) to manage, maintain and secure our existing websites and to support the development of new web applications in-house. The ideal candidate will handle day-to-day website management, SEO/GEO optimisation and security hardening, as well as support in cloud infrastructure management and in-house web development. While the immediate focus of this role is on website management and development, the candidate should also possess the knowledge and experience to support the future design and development of in-house digital platforms, such as Content Management Systems (CMS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS), as our digital ecosystem evolves.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Website Management & Development

• Manage, update and maintain existing WordPress websites, including themes, plugins, and custom functionalities
• Troubleshoot and resolve website bugs, errors and performance issues
• Develop and customise WordPress themes/plugins as per business requirements
• Assist in building and maintaining in-house CMS systems
• Contribute to the planning and development of future in-house CMS and LMS platforms as organisational needs evolve.
• Build front-end interfaces and reusable components for the CMS/LMS platforms using React and Angular.JS, with TypeScript for type-safe, maintainable code
• Design and manage backend data models and databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) supporting the CMS/LMS platforms

SEO & GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

• Implement on-page and technical SEO best practices across websites
• Support GEO efforts to optimize content visibility across AI-driven search and generative engines
• Work with SEO tools (Google Search Console, Bing SEO tools, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Yoast, RankMath, etc.) to monitor and improve site performance
• Work on keyword strategy, site structure and content optimisation

Security & Website Protection

• Implement security best practices to protect hosted WordPress websites from vulnerabilities, malware and attacks
• Set up and manage firewalls, CDNs, SSL certificates, backups and security plugins
• Monitor websites for security threats and respond promptly to incidents
• Conduct periodic security audits and apply necessary patches/updates
• Manage cloud hosting infrastructure for websites (Familiar with AWS or Microsoft Azure)
• Monitor server performance, uptime and scalability
• Handle domain, DNS, hosting and server-level configurations
• Optimise website speed and performance at both application and server level
• Stay updated with emerging web technologies, WordPress trends, CMS and LMS innovations
• Continuously upskill in cloud, security, and SEO/GEO tools
• Contribute ideas for improving internal CMS and web development processes

DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE

• 2–3 years of experience in web development, WordPress or digital marketing, including hands-on experience building web applications
• Working knowledge of WordPress (theme/plugin customization, PHP basics)
• Exposure to SEO concepts and tools (Google Analytics, Search Console, Yoast/RankMath, etc.)
• Interest or basic exposure to cloud hosting platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure etc.)
• Awareness of website security practices (SSL, backups, firewalls etc.)
• Strong willingness to learn new tools, technologies and platforms
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with Communications & IT teams

GOOD TO HAVE

• Familiarity with GEO / AI search optimization concepts
• Basic knowledge of Git/version control
• Understanding of website analytics and performance monitoring tools
• Prior experience in web development and digital marketing
