Job description

Two engineers cover web across the whole retainer base: Karthik, who is deep in custom builds, headless commerce and integrations, and Ayaz, who is the founder and still in the codebase between client calls. The complicated work is covered. What queues is everything else — the redesign, the landing page that should take two days, the maintenance window that keeps getting moved.

You’d be the third engineer, and the one whose whole week is the build rather than the build plus everything else. Design comes to you as a finished file, copy comes from the writer, and the site is yours from local to live.

02 / What you’ll do

• Build client websites from design files: WordPress themes, WooCommerce stores, landing pages, full redesigns
• Take Core Web Vitals seriously — most of our clients get found in search, and a slow site undoes the SEO work being paid for
• Implement tracking correctly: GA4, GTM, conversion events, server-side where the client needs it
• Handle migrations and redesigns without losing the rankings, working alongside the SEO lead
• Run maintenance properly: updates, backups, uptime, and the security patch nobody wants to do on a Friday
• Scope builds honestly before they are sold, and say when a timeline is fiction

03 / What we need

Must have

• 3-5 years building and shipping client websites
• WordPress to a real standard: custom themes, plugin work, and the judgement to know when a page builder is the right answer and when it is technical debt
• PHP you write deliberately rather than paste
• Comfortable with git, staging, and deploying without holding your breath

Nice to have

• WooCommerce or Shopify past a default theme
• A modern framework — Astro or Next.js — and static hosting such as Cloudflare
• Site speed work you can point at, with before-and-after numbers
• An eye for design detail, so a build survives contact with the design file

04 / What’s hard about it

You will inherit other people’s code. Client sites arrive with abandoned themes, twenty plugins, and no documentation, and part of this job is making those work rather than proposing a rebuild every time.

The deadlines are client deadlines, and they are real. You’ll also be asked to explain technical trade-offs to a business owner in plain language, which is a harder skill than the code.
