About the Role
We're looking for a mid-level Web Designer who sits at the intersection of visual design and front-end engineering. You will own the look, feel, and interactive quality of our web experiences, designing in Figma and shipping production code in React and Next.js. You care as much about typography, spacing, and motion as you do about component architecture, rendering strategy, and performance. You will partner closely with product designers, backend engineers, and content leads to translate intent into interfaces that are fast, accessible, and visually polished.
Responsibilities
- Design and build responsive, accessible web pages, layouts, and components directly in React and Next.js (App Router).
- Translate Figma mockups, wireframes, and design tokens into production-quality, pixel-accurate code.
- Maintain and evolve the shared component library, ensuring visual and behavioral consistency across surfaces.
- Own visual polish end-to-end: typography hierarchy, color systems, spacing rhythm, micro-interactions, and motion.
- Choose appropriate Next.js rendering strategies (SSG, ISR, SSR, client) per route based on content freshness, SEO, and performance needs.
- Optimize for Core Web Vitals, bundle size, and SEO across web properties.
- Perform design QA across breakpoints, browsers, and devices; catch regressions before they ship.
- Champion accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), including keyboard, screen reader, and reduced-motion support.
- Collaborate with backend engineers on data contracts and with product on UX flows.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience in web design and/or front-end development.
- Strong proficiency in React and Next.js (App Router experience preferred).
- Solid HTML5, modern CSS3 (Grid, Flexbox, container queries), and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD) and translating designs to code with high fidelity.
- Strong eye for typography, color, layout, spacing, and motion.
- Understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility (WCAG).
- Familiarity with Next.js data fetching, routing, and deployment workflows.
- Comfort with Git, code review, and collaborating in a shared codebase.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Tailwind CSS, CSS Modules, or component libraries such as shadcn/ui or Radix.
- Motion/animation libraries (Framer Motion, GSAP, Lottie).
- Contributing to or building out a design system with tokens and documentation.
- Practical SEO knowledge and Core Web Vitals optimization in Next.js.
- Experience with headless CMS platforms (Contentful, Sanity, Payload, Strapi).
- Basic understanding of analytics, A/B testing, or conversion-driven design decisions.
- Familiarity with image optimization strategies (next/image, responsive sources, CDN).
