Job summary

STAR Hospitals in Hyderabad is seeking a microbiology laboratory technician to perform routine microbiological investigations, receive and process clinical specimens, and prepare culture media and reagents. You will operate lab equipment and conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing, while maintaining accurate records and adhering to NABL standards.

The role requires knowledge of culture techniques, staining, and LIS-based data entry, with attention to biosafety and quality control.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of microbiological culture techniques.
• Good understanding of staining procedures and culture media.

• Familiarity with laboratory equipment and automated microbiology systems is an advantage.
• Basic computer and LIS knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine microbiological investigations as per established laboratory protocols.
• Receive, identify, label, and process clinical specimens such as blood, urine, sputum, swabs, body fluids, and other samples.
• Prepare and maintain culture media, reagents, and laboratory solutions.
• Operate and maintain microbiology laboratory equipment.
• Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing as per approved procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of test results, worksheets, registers, and quality-control documentation.
• Follow proper specimen handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate laboratory infection-control and biosafety practices.
• Perform internal quality control and report any deviations to the concerned supervisor.
• Assist Microbiologists/Pathologists in routine and special investigations.
• Ensure timely processing and reporting of samples.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and work areas.
• Follow hospital policies, SOPs, NABL requirements, and applicable safety standards.
