1. Inspection and Testing
- Perform Material Sampling: Execute sampling plans (such as AQL - Acceptance Quality Limit) for incoming batches.
- Conduct Physical and Functional Tests: Check dimensions, visual appearance, and material properties using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and hardness testers.
- Verify Documentation: Check Material Test Reports (MTRs), certificates of analysis (CoA), packing slips, and compliance tags against purchase orders and engineering drawings.
2. Non-Conformance and Defect Management
- Issue NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports): Document and flag any raw materials or batches that fail to meet quality thresholds.
- Quarantine Defective Stock: Isolate and tag non-conforming items to prevent them from accidentally reaching the production floor.
- Root Cause Analysis & CAPA: Lead or support problem-solving methods like the 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, or 8D to investigate supplier defects and drive Corrective and Preventive Actions.
3. Supplier Quality Management
- Supplier Performance Tracking: Monitor vendor quality metrics, defect rates, and delivery consistency.
- Supplier Escalation: Coordinate with the procurement/sourcing team to return rejected lots, request credit notes, or issue supplier corrective actions (SCARs).
- Vendor Audits: Assist in evaluating and qualifying new suppliers or auditing existing vendor manufacturing sites.
4. Process Improvement and Compliance
- QMS Adherence: Ensure all incoming inspection workflows comply with quality standards such as ISO 9001 or industry-specific norms (e.g., IATF 16949, AS9100).
- Update Checklists and SOPs: Continuously refine incoming inspection instructions, sampling criteria, and test parameters.
- Data Logging and Reporting: Maintain digital or physical records of test results, vendor scorecards, and incoming defect trends for management review.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with R&D and Design: Clarify ambiguous engineering drawings or tolerances with design and product development teams.
- Coordinate with Production & Store/Warehouse: Inform store personnel on stock release status (approved, hold, or rejected) to keep inventory moving smoothly.
