Job summary

MSCI Inc. is seeking a senior Platform Engineer to lead the design and evolution of internal CI/CD platforms, developer workflows, and self-service tooling.

You will own integration across GitHub, Azure DevOps, Backstage, Kubernetes, and cloud services, partnering with Security and Risk teams to embed governance and reliability. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps Engineering, or related software engineering roles.
• Hands-on experience building developer platform capabilities such as automation, APIs, internal tooling, and reusable workflows.
• Deep expertise with SCM tools and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, and/or GitLab, including pipelines, templates, and platform integrations.
• Experience designing reusable CI/CD frameworks and standardized engineering workflows across multiple teams.
• Strong understanding of SDLC architecture, software delivery workflows, and developer enablement practices.
• Strong programming and scripting in Go, Java, or TypeScript.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs, webhooks, and event-driven integrations.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native delivery patterns.
• Experience embedding governance, compliance, and security controls into engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement reusable CI/CD frameworks, GitHub Actions workflows, templates, and platform abstractions.
• Drive enterprise DevOps and SDLC standardization initiatives and engineering best practices.
• Design and build internal platform capabilities, APIs, automation services, and integrations across GitHub, Azure DevOps, Backstage, cloud services, and internal systems.
• Partner with Security, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Risk, and Application Engineering teams to embed governance and compliance into workflows.
• Contribute to MSCI's internal engineering platform strategy and modernization roadmap.
• Support production-grade platforms through SRE practices like monitoring, incident response, and capacity planning.
• Guide engineering teams on platform adoption, CI/CD modernization, developer workflows, and best practices.

Job description

The DevOps Platform Engineering team is responsible for building, operating, and evolving the engineering platforms, developer workflows, and self-service capabilities that enable engineering teams across MSCI to deliver software securely, reliably, and at scale.

As part of the MSCI Core DevOps Engineering team, you will help define and evolve the future of software delivery and developer enablement across the organization. This includes ownership of CI/CD platforms, engineering workflows, cloud-native platforms, internal developer tooling, and self-service capabilities built on technologies such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, and Backstage.

The team defines and maintains engineering standards, golden paths, reusable workflows, platform abstractions, and governance models that product and engineering teams adopt to accelerate delivery while maintaining consistency, security, compliance, and operational excellence.

This team operates as a software engineering organization focused on platform capabilities and developer experience - building internal products, APIs, automation, and integrations that shape how engineering teams build, deploy, operate, and support software across MSCI.

• Architect and implement reusable CI/CD frameworks, GitHub Actions workflows, templates, and platform abstractions that standardize software delivery across the organization, packaged as golden paths that stay flexible for diverse engineering use cases.
• Drive enterprise DevOps and SDLC standardization initiatives and engineering best practices.
• Design and build internal platform capabilities, APIs, automation services, and integrations across GitHub, Azure DevOps, Backstage, cloud services, and internal systems.
• Partner closely with Security, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Risk, and Application Engineering teams to embed governance, compliance, and operational controls directly into engineering workflows and platform capabilities.
• Contribute to the long-term evolution of MSCI's internal engineering platform strategy, developer experience initiatives, and platform modernization roadmap.
• Support and evolve production-grade engineering platforms through SRE practices such as monitoring, incident response, and capacity planning, keeping them reliable and resilient at scale.
• Guide engineering teams on platform adoption, CI/CD modernization, developer workflows, and engineering best practices.

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps Engineering, Developer Platform Engineering, or related software engineering roles.
• Strong software engineering mindset with hands-on experience building developer platform capabilities such as automation, APIs, internal tooling, and reusable workflows, including work on an internal developer platform or portal (Backstage or equivalent).
• Deep expertise with SCM tools and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub (preferred), Azure DevOps, and/or GitLab, including repositories, CI/CD pipelines, reusable workflows/templates, permissions, and platform integrations.
• Experience designing reusable CI/CD frameworks and standardized engineering workflows, and driving platform standardization and enablement across multiple teams.
• Strong understanding of SDLC architecture, software delivery workflows, source control governance, branching strategies, release engineering, and developer enablement practices.
• Strong programming and scripting experience in one or more languages such as Go, Java, or TypeScript.
• Proven experience building and consuming REST APIs, webhooks, and event-driven integrations.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native application delivery patterns.
• Experience embedding governance, compliance, and security controls into engineering workflows, partnering with Security and Risk teams (e.g., DevSecOps, policy-as-code, governance automation).
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of partnering across security, cloud, infrastructure, and engineering teams and mentoring engineers on platform adoption and best practices.
• Strong operational mindset with experience supporting production-grade engineering platforms and developer tooling.

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience with Backstage specifically.
• Experience building self-service engineering workflows and developer enablement platforms.
• Experience with platform observability, engineering metrics, and developer productivity initiatives.
• Experience with GitOps frameworks.
