Job description

Job Title: VP - BCO COE – ICG

  • Credit & Capital Management (CCM) team under CIB are implementing a new, modern, and consistent E2E operating model, of which a key component is the introduction of a first line credit management office (the Business Credit Office.) The BCO function will complete tasks including structuring, credit analysis and rating recommendation, client credit monitoring tasks, credit terms and docs negotiation with WCMR and clients acting as a single handoff from a RM to the BCO for all CCM tasks, creating a single control point.
  • The VP, ICG Funds will be responsible for ensuring exemplary risk management acumen and control standards are embedded within the end-to-end CCM process. The role holder is expected to hold strong subject matter expertise across the Funds and Fund managers’ credit journeys, with deep credit knowledge and understanding of relevant end-to-end processes, operating model controls, data structures, and supporting systems. In discharging their duties, the role holder must implement and sustain common, reliable, and predictable processes protecting the business from undue exposure whilst responding effectively to client needs. The role holder will report directly to Director, BCO COE ICG and will work closely with the ICG Coverage and Risk teams to ensure seamless customer experience and consistency of service globally. The candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the successful ICG BCO rollout.
  • The role holder must be a strategic thinker with an innovation driven mindset an effective collaborator and skilled stakeholder manager, successfully navigating complex landscape to deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers and stakeholders.
In this role, you will:
  • Play a critical role in driving the BCO rollout in Institutional Clients Group space.
  • Responsible for the delivery of BCO tasks in line with agreed OKRs, SLAs and KPIs for own portfolio of clients. Please note a commensurate portolio comprising of moderate to high complexity of clients will have to be managed by the successful candidate which could amount to 30% of available time.
  • Lead and manage the end-to-end CCM journey, ensuring a seamless and efficient process for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • BCO Regional Heads, WMR and other key stakeholders where necessary to ensure successful completion of key Optimization and Transformation initiatives
  • Manage a team comprising of a mix of ODC and perm resources for ensuring the team performs well together, and manage their workflow, training & development to deliver the BCO model satisfactorily within agreed timelines
  • Continuously drive improvement in productivity of the BCO team whilst enhancing client experience.
  • Drive adoption of technology/digital and customer experience improvement initiatives, including alignment to a globally consistent C&L operating model.
  • Monitor and analyze customer and stakeholder feedback, identifying key areas of focus to improve customer outcomes.
  • Work with the Head of BCO COE ICG to ensure risks and issues related to CCM are escalated to country, regional and global stakeholders and resolved in a satisfactory manner.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across credit analysis activities to deliver a high and consistent standard.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the teams, including credibility with both Business and Risk teams.
  • Develop and maintain a diverse, innovation-driven BCO team, ensuring high levels of engagement and satisfaction
  • Participate in deal discussions and meetings with clients or credit risk as required.
  • Protect the Bank by acting as First Line of Defense and observing all controls.
  • Identifies and anticipates all types of risks (e.g., industry, portfolio, diversification, sovereign, commercial, currency, etc.) and identify micro and macro trends impacting the credit portfolio, working with WCRM and business heads to take appropriate steps in changes to underwriting criteria and conducting rapid portfolio reviews.
  • Demonstrates ability to engage in constructive and consistent dialogue with risk partners, in a manner that effectively balances commercial outcomes and risk management
  • Work with the Head of BCO to ensure adequate credit risk management controls are built into the operational process and robust MI is in place to track and measure risk against agreed thresholds
  • Responsible for talent management, performance management & succession planning as applicable.
  • To regularly host exchanges for the team and ensure necessary action plans are designed and executed for resolution.
  • Foster a culture of compliance amongst the BCO team members as regards Group Compliance Policy.
Leadership & Teamwork
  • Provide leadership and direction to respective BCO team, fostering a sense of unity and purpose.
  • Develop critical skillsets in team members and provide a stimulating work environment to retain key talent.
  • Champion the voice of the RM and customer and build a culture of balancing commercial and client/customer outcomes.
  • To represent BCO in various management committees and regional stakeholders’ meetings.
  • To enhance capabilities of the team by continuous learning and skill development promoting the CCM “Development Day” and providing adequate support for the teams’ PDPs.
  • To constantly guide and motivate team members to deliver high quality of credit submissions is a vital component of this role.
To be successful you will:
Knowledge and Experience
  • Chartered Accountants / master’s in business, Finance, Economics or equivalent is essential and any professional qualification (i.e. CFA, Chartered Banker) is desirable. If none, tenured experiences in credit analysis and/or credit approvals will be considered.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in CCM, with a strong background in managing loan portfolios.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing senior stakeholders, with experience in organizational design and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of Investment Banking is mandatory, such as Securities, Treasury, Foreign Exchange, Derivatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations and drive alignment among senior stakeholders.
  • Expertise in credit risk management and control assessment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to articulate customer feedback and distil key areas of focus.
  • Proven ability managing in a large and complex operational environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, commercial mindset with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of operationalizing policies and procedures for managing or minimizing risk – including credit, operational, regulatory and reputational risk – in accordance with the Group Standards Manual, Risk FIM, relevant guidelines and standards
