(BCCL) is one of India's largest media conglomerates, with a legacy dating back to 1838 and a portfolio that includes The Times of India, The Economic Times, Mumbai Mirror, Navbharat Times, Maharashtra Times, and Vijay Karnataka. Across print, digital, branded content, out-of-home, and experiential platforms, BCCL combines trusted journalism, audience insight, and innovation to shape conversations at scale.

About 1838

1838 is a cultural platform and community for creative entrepreneurs and cultural tastemakers. Through its space, magazine, events, and media, it brings people and ideas together, extending the creative life of the community beyond its physical space.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Video Editor with strong expertise in video editing, motion graphics and AI-enabled video production. The role will shape 1838’s visual storytelling across its video podcast, cultural programming, community stories and digital platforms.

Combining creative judgement and editing craft with emerging AI tools, the individual will transform footage, conversations and creative concepts into compelling visual narratives. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across conventional and AI-assisted workflows, using technology to enhance creativity, improve production efficiency and develop distinctive content while preserving 1838’s cultural and editorial sensibility.

What You Will Do
1. Video Editing & Visual Storytelling
  • Edit video podcast episodes, conversations, cultural features, event films and community stories, applying strong editorial judgement to create engaging narratives.
  • Exercise sound judgement on pacing, sequencing, music, sound design, transitions and visual continuity.
  • Combine live-action footage, photography, graphics, stock assets and AI-generated visuals into cohesive, high-quality videos.
  • Create short-form edits, trailers, teasers and platform-specific adaptations from longer content without losing the essence of the original story.
2. AI-Enabled Video Editing & Production
  • Integrate AI tools into video editing and post-production workflows to enhance visual storytelling, accelerate execution and explore new creative possibilities.
  • Use AI-powered capabilities for tasks such as footage selection, transcription, subtitles, audio enhancement, background removal, object removal, rotoscoping, reframing and other editing or finishing requirements, as appropriate.
  • Work with generative AI tools for text-to-video, image-to-video, visual enhancement and scene creation, integrating the outputs seamlessly into conventional editing workflows.
  • Experiment with platforms such as Runway, Kling, Higgsfield, Minimax or equivalent tools to develop original visual treatments and creative executions.
  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs critically for visual quality, consistency, realism and relevance to the brief; identify and correct artefacts or inconsistencies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging AI video tools and techniques, identifying practical applications that improve output quality, turnaround time or creative range.
  • Ensure AI-generated and third-party assets are used responsibly, with appropriate attention to permissions, copyright, authenticity and editorial integrity.
3. Motion Graphics & Visual Design
  • Create titles, typography, transitions, animations, logo treatments and other motion graphics using Adobe After Effects.
  • Translate creative briefs and storyboards into compelling motion-led content that complements 1838’s visual identity.
  • Apply compositing, masking, tracking, keying and visual effects techniques to enhance the final output.
  • Combine motion graphics with live-action and AI-generated footage to create a cohesive and distinctive visual language.
4. Cultural Programming & Digital Content
  • Edit content featuring 1838’s creative community, including artists, designers, filmmakers, cultural entrepreneurs and other tastemakers.
  • Create compelling visual coverage of events, exhibitions, performances, conversations and experiences at 1838’s heritage space and beyond.
  • Develop content for YouTube, social media, the website, newsletters, magazine extensions and event screens, as relevant.
  • Adapt content across aspect ratios and formats, including 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1, while maintaining visual quality and consistency.
5. Creative Collaboration & Post-Production
  • Work closely with the Creative Head, editorial team, videographers and external creative partners to translate briefs into effective visual outputs.
  • Contribute ideas on visual treatments, editing approaches, motion design and AI-assisted execution during the creative development process.
  • Manage post-production from initial edit through colour correction, sound, graphics, finishing and final delivery.
  • Maintain an organised library of footage, project files, motion graphics, AI-generated assets and final outputs for efficient retrieval and reuse.
What You Bring
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in video editing, motion graphics or creative production.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe After Effects and strong proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Hands‑on experience with AI-powered video editing, generative video workflows and integrating AI-generated assets into final outputs.
  • Strong skills in editing, motion graphics, animation, compositing, sound design and post-production.
  • A keen visual sense, strong storytelling ability and the judgement to ensure quality and consistency in AI-generated content.
  • Familiarity with AI video tools such as Runway, Kling, Higgsfield or similar platforms.
  • Ability to independently deliver high-quality content from brief to final output, manage timelines and collaborate with creative and editorial teams.
  • Interest in contemporary culture, art, design, film or the wider creative economy is an advantage.
  • A strong portfolio or showreel demonstrating video editing, motion graphics, storytelling and practical use of AI in video production.
  • Working knowledge of DaVinci Resolve for colour correction and grading is desirable.
Education

A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Digital Media or a related discipline is desirable. Practical design capability, AI proficiency, creative thinking and portfolio quality will carry significant weight.
